He has a Craine setup, its playing up. Several others i have heard of play up.

From what i have gathered Craine=Pro**** quality ignitions.

I have had MSD on several cars with no dramas, mine and mates cars. A few other guys i know who make a reasonable amount of power run MSD. You dont see Craine HI6 on the side of many drag cars.

All i was trying to say is you can either f*ck around with shit or you can just buy the good gear strait up and save money in the long run.

That said, If mr big T isolated the igniton as the problem there is no reason why with his setup he couldent go back to a standard type ignition. But if he was to spend money there and decided to work the motor in the future and required a DECENT ignition then it would in the long run be pissing money into the wind.

Im over trying to defend my statement, take it or leave it.

Cheers.

Ok, im not having a go at yourself or MSD.

Im pointing out that you dont have to spend that kind of money to get something decent.

There are many who would argue that putting money down on a Hi-6 - even in a performance application - would not be considered pissing money into the wind, myself included.

Cheers,

Peter (torana308) ans Scott (pro79) came around to have a look at the car today. We were going to swap the dissy out to points dissy but didnt get that far.

The car started and idled fine however an experienced pair of eyes noticed the fuel filter wasnt nearly as full as it should be. After idling for a good ten minutes the engine didnt die like it usually does (always the way when someone is trying to replicate a problem!!). With the engine still running Peter checked the kinked fuel hose and noticed the rubber was soft and very kinked. He then jacked he car up, removed the damaged hose and noticed the metal fuel lines had come away from the bracket that holds them is place, hence the kink. The bracket is broken so we have had to improvise for the time being before implementing a more permanent solution.

With a new straight fuel hose in place I took the car for a test drive and it was fine. Let it cool down and gave it another run and once again, no dramas. The fuel filter fills up properly and there is no hesitation from the engine. I will give the car a few more test drives over Easter before counting my chickens but for now all is good.

The crane unit gets hot, but not hot to touch which I can live with and doesnt seem abnormal.

Big thanks to Peter and Scott for coming around to give me a hand. It was great to have some knowledgeable folk see the problem first hand and sort it out. I was also good to have a yarn face to face with fellow forum members.

Hopefully, the problem has been fixed. Not that I dont trust Peter, I just dont trust my car !!

BTW - If it is ignition I will be going to a Holden Electric dissy and then further down the track an IC&E system. If I am going to spend big dollars, I might as well support local product. Plus the IC&E gear seems a bit cheaper.
