Has there been any cases yet where tags offered for sale have shown up on a car for sale years later ?

How exactly does that work?  If someone looks for Torana tags they'll see your ad?  I typed in Torana Tags in ebay and didn't see it.

Hello Steve,

I just got the paypal sorted on friday with the two little money amounts into the account,

so now to get hold of some bevel tag rivets and others to sell indefinitely to keep the site out there. :)

How exactly does that work?

s

Did find this old thread on the subject:-

http://www.gmh-toran...c/65844-rivets/

p.s.

Can you help with genuine rivets, as we need to sell them at a price that don't sell?

do you have any other idea's?

as this 'tagwatchers' site is only for directing people here. :)

You aren't allowed to sell VIN tag rivets on ebay either, they're a restricted item.

you don't want to advertise genuine one's.

I.e. Advertise them as genuine but use a photo of some common Bunnings one's as Gend suggested. :)

Not according to ebay policy, no.

They only get removed if they receive a lot of reports is my guess, they don't police it very well.

Hi

I've never heard of not being permitted to sell tag rivets. There's nothing about them in the relevant VicRoads legislation, and besides, Rare Spares sell them by the hundreds.

Cheers

Just an ebay policy I assume.

Only mention it so that if Dave puts an advert up it doesn't get removed :)

They're average everyday alum pop rivets FFS. Just happens the truss head on some brands is the same or similar to the LH and HJ onwards tag rivets. Can buy a box of 1000 of them at the local fastener shop for about $26.00

Ebay is American so they design their rules according to US policy. In the USA you have Corvettes, etc. with specialised fancy VIN rivets. In the US they had the foresight and intelligence to take things a step further to make it harder for thieves, so if anyone transfers the tags to another car you can spot it a mile away as you couldn't buy the rivets from a hardware store.

Don't alert him to what the other tag numbers may be; I'd rather he sell a set of mis-matching tags instead of him finding the right match, selling those and have a fraud XU-1 magically appear in the future.

Hello Adam,

I knew the 1/8" pop rivets were not the real deal,

and we decided to sell something that was normal,

as you suggested to keep away from any problems that could arise and have the ad taken down mate. :)

Lol, I reckon you will sell heaps of them !!!

My L34 has the old type as well. A funny shaped pin punch was used to insert them, then the hole filled with a hard tar. They changed to the pop rivets about the end of '74.

It looks to me like the pin on the pop rivets was hollow. Any rivet you buy from the hardware store would be a solid pin, and they snap off deep inside leaving a bigger hole.

Thanks to Datto and Brad for the following.
