Mmm OK.......

dude tolerances vary from each torrie, no one can rly say eg. 'any lower than 2.2156" and it will not clear speed humps'...seriously mate just take what PLEANTY of helpful people are saying to you onboard first, THINK about it, THEN post....there is some valuable pointers i think your missing re: lowering & re: spoilers +&- kit.

My UC looked just like yours (black grille and all [exept it is a factory torana]) but had hotwires and let me also say it would look ghay with just a rear spoiler.

Also take in what Nathan is saying (he has seen MANY UC's), flares = big wheels otherwise it also looks ghay. With that, don't bother with a front spoiler if you dont have flares, IMO it will look unfinished = also ghay.

Now what i think looks good and what anyone else thinks looks good is just preference but its much past that now, personally i think you've got more than enough feedback in this thread to make a decision in regards to flares &or spoilers.

OK now to explain your lowering situation again....
here mine is on STD springs (a loooonggg time ago)

As heath & I have said no lower with 13" rims or your exhaust will catch on everything.

Anyway, its your car, so you've gotta make the decisions, but you've racked up heaps of opinions (which is what you were after), so go and take it all in, figure out what you want from the car at this point in time THEN post us back, i don't know if its just me, but otherwise im finding that this is all beating around the bush a bit.

Either way enjoy im sure we'll see it at a cruise soon enough
Brad.

If you don't mind a hard ride in the rear end, just get some Commodore series 1 IRS springs (like from the back of a VQ Stato), shouldn't cost anything, and you just cut the centres out with an angle grinder and won't take you more than an hour to swap them over. That's what is in the back of my car, and it's fine with 13"s because they have a decent tyre profile, but if you go something with low profile tyres, I would opt for softer springs.

I would focus on lining up a four speed for the car before you bother about aesthetics - get it driving really nicely and learn the car well, then make it look nice :)

Reverse scoop and front spoiler fitted.
Posted Image
Looks okay, but that style of scoop is a no go unless you have a blower, air cleaner or some kind of tall manifolding under it, which you won't have with a six :P

If you do get a front spoiler, try and get something that sits up higher than the normal off the shelf ones. Your other option is getting a front spoiler which isn't the conventional SL/R/SS type! If you are struggling for ideas, go and look at some chin spoilers on american muscle cars

Don't think the springs will fit in, but the shocks might.

If I feel motivated later on I might do a PS with some flares, but I don't normally go out of my way to create ugly things on photoshop :P

First off this is your car and you are free to do what you like but general concense seems to be flares look nuff, there is a reason for that they do look nuff

I have seen a few UCs that looked good and I think the reason they looked good was becasue the UC unlike the LX looks like a later model car then the LX and suits commodore style mods over traditional torana mods so if it were me I would be front spoiler side skirts and a rear wing (not spoiler) clean up a all the badges and side moldings for a clean neat appearance, oh and no bonnet scope tinted windows are good and go for bigger better wheels you can fit 7inch wide on the front and 8 on the rear easy with no flares or tyre rubbing issues 245s on the rear and 225 on front
but that is just my opinion

That fine all good here you dont like them I think the VK blue meanie and the VL were great but I have never had any of them bar the VL with a small aero kit nice looking car handled like crap. as I said in my first post it is your car you do what you like I was offering sugestions on what I thought would work well. What ever you decide to do enjoy the process and the people you meet, for those of us who have done a few cars and or had them a few years they become a time capsul of the people and friends we made while owning / building it

I will make a general comment on something I have seen a lot of, and this is NOT directed at anyone in particular
A lot of guys usually young guys get a car and have an idea that XYZ is a great looking mod, which is it might be in certin cars but not necessarly on the car this young bloke has another thing is XYZ might look good and mod ABC might look good but not togetheir. I have seen cars where the guy has looked at the detail of a mod but not how it will fit into the overall plan of the car and how it will be finished.

I make this as a general comment not directed at anyone here

:iagree:

Like sticking a chrome mountain out the bonnet of a car that doesn't have chrome bumpers
But it's all kinda subjective isn't it? :P

I think we all have different tastes which is a good thing, but the point which i was trying to make is you see guys usually young guys who look at one part of a car and modifiy that rather then stepping back and saying what is my goal here what is the finished product I am after and then planning a build to achieve that. The other point was and it was something about the car scene I didnt appriecate at first was how in building a car it becomes a focus which your friend will gather around and from which new friendships will ber found eh buddy mate old friend Heath :fighting:

I think it might be because the car already sits lower in the front (maybe the springs weren't changed when the six was installed? lol). I would always recommend starting by lowering the rear and then playing around with the front end (much harder to get right)

Your not allowed to drive till you have a licence
And probably no insurance company will touch you even when you do get a licence
Especially in a 30 yr old car as a P plater
And even moreso if you modify it
Unless you want your wallet annually (thats yearly.. not what you were thinking) raped by Just Cars

Get your parents to insure it and nominate you as a driver

How about you guys stop being so bloody negative towards hawk? Every second person seems to be jumping on the band wagon of crushing his spirits because I abruptly told him not to flare a UC.

I got my MODIFIED LX Torana insured with full comp for well under $1,000 for regular use, with all modifications listed (and freedom for a lot more!), when I was 18, as far as my insurance company are concerned, they don't even know I have living parents. Whether he wants to take out a policy with his parents or by himself is his choice, but don't suggest that he doesn't have any options!

hawk, call around a lot of companies. Don't bother with JUSTCAR or anything that is only going to insure you for redbook prices. Extended 3rd party may be an option for the short-term as well...

He asks on a forum
He gets these answers
He could have read the many insurance threads and got an idea there
He could get on the phone and asked
I highly doubt anyone will even give him a good idea till he has licence in hand

Ask on a forum... get forum answers
Want the right answer... ring around

Take your chances on the internet and be careful what you ask... simple

Good for you Heath.... but I doubt he has $1k a year to throw about right now
Hence my suggestion about parents... alot do it to save money early on and get some history up

Enthusiasm is one thing... I'm not bagging him
I'm trying to offer suggestions based on experience in the world
Feel free to offer yours too

Settle down guys, we're all friends here remember.

I'm sure Heath has more recent experience at getting insurance on a modified car as an 18 year old than I do, so experience doesn't always come from age - rather from ... er ... experience.
