I didn't think the word "Bath" was in an Englishman's vocab.

I dont know which way is right,
have seen it on a lot of sites.
4 piston calipers as either
4 pots or 4 spots?
a pot is a cylinder on a motorcycle which could make sense but
what is a spot on a car?
Dattoman what do you reckon?

My take on the "4 spot / pot" brake calliper thing:
4 pistons acting on the brake shoes - we all understand...
an engine piston i've heard referred to as "pots" - so i think there is THAT interchange of use...
and SPOT again sounds like pot, and also the 4 pistons contact on 4 spots of the pad as matty alluded to!
That's my take on it.. and sometimes i think we have to be more than bi-lingual to understand what's being said!!
Cheers

There is a pic in a recent thread of an ID plate from an LJ 2 door saying "2 door Sedan". I can't remember who posted it but I call him "The Customer" 'cause he's always right.
Mixing "a" and "an" sh1ts me, but which is the correct one when talking about "a/an LH"? I say "an LH" but technically that's probably not right. A lot of people use "a" in front of words that start with "h" and "w" as they are both supposedly secondary vowels or some sh1t. "I saw an woman riding an horse today". It's just not right!
"To", "too" and "two"; "Their", "there" and "they're"... I'll think of some more soon...

I don't know how many people have told me that my hatch is a 2 door SLR 5000.
I just say "yes mate" rather than explain what an SS is.
just go to armadale classic custom interiors they seem to think there is a LH SLR hatchback lol

Its vowel sounds...you put "an" in front of words beginning with a vowel...an egg, an igloo etc. So an LH is acceptable as the the "L" has a vowel sound...think of it as "an EL-H"

Do you bother to correct those who aren't "car people"? Like if someone who has never built a car is talking about his friend's "LH hatchback", I don't make the conversation awkward and be a rude bastard for no reason, I just nod and go along with it; I know it's an LX hatch, I could tell them but if they really cared they probably would have found out already.
Heath, you have to be the rudest person i know when it comes to 'correcting' people who say the wrong thing! HAHAHAHAH!

incorrect spelling doesnt really bother me, as you can usually work out what someone is talking about. its the incorrect words that annoy me. ''rocket cover'' being a classic example. if i worked at a parts place and somone asked me for anything to do with a rocket cover, i would give them the phone number for nasa.
what annoys me most is when people clearly have no idea about what they are rambling about, they just repeat stuff they have heard other people say. from these situations i have heard the words ''wastegauge'' instead of wastegate and ''samboofer'' in place of subwoofer.
ebay is awesome for incorrect names for parts

I'll just have to call it my one stuff up for the year. Lesson for all the boys and girls about using big words..."Names of parts" would have worked just as well.
I too have my favourite Ebay incorrectly spelt searches, Holly carbs is one.
New one for the list.....Imput shafts
This thread is starting to remind me of an old "Thins" ad.
