Wow that many layers of paint on the bonnet! I did that ten years ago when i was not of a clear mind. ( alcohol etc) You know what chefs are like. I feel like a bit of a shit really. But youre coping very well. let me know if you want to extend the dash to delete the crash pad. Thanks mate.

Well I've been out of action this week with a buggered knee but I did go in on monday and do a bit of priming.

I had the bare metal bits on the tonner, a couple of patches on the camaro and the other half of the kombi cab to prime. Stripping the kombi back to bare metal isn't really fun either : )

Pete mentioned to me this week he'd like the dash pad and fascia to be steel as well, so the inside of this thing is going to be a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to making the changes on this car. It's going to be cool when it's finished.

I also finally dragged our 68 firebird out to the new shed too, so I'll be able to get back to work on that one too.

Mate your an absolute machine, you must be working your ass off each day because it really seems like you dont cut any corners on these cars to make up any time.

But anyway just though i would chuck it in, if pete intends on getting the car registered you cant do so in any state without a soft dash pad, no engineer will pass an all steel dash pad on a 79 model

Hey shadow, yes you're right about that. I did tell Pete that was the case, but I think you'd have to be pretty unlucky to get done because of it. I guess we'll just see how we feel when we're at that stage.

Hi wot. Well this week I only worked a couple of hours on monday to prime some stuff because I frayed a ligament in my knee. So for me this week sitting on my ass all day with my leg up doing nothing, it feels like there's about 50 hours in a day : )

Dirtbag is correct (he must have been a Canberra resident in the 90's !), I purchased the car as a B&S ute and thrashed it around for a while as it was. I then got keen and cut out the rust and it ended up basically as a tonner with a flat rear firewall, still on the ute chassis.

That pic was at the 1995 Winternationals at Willowbank, at that time the car was running in Super Gas. It ended up running 9.5's at just over 140MPH. I used to drive it to Sydney to race it and then drive it home again (young and silly !!).

A young lady walked into the shop a few months later and purchased the car as a rolling shell. A local wrecker fitted a 253 and M20 and it did the rounds for a few years here in Canberra before disappearing in the late 90's. I have no idea where it ended up.

Edit.... Hey Shadowmaster, that is a tidy HQ Tonner :spoton: Nice work !

talk about insirational! Youre ute gives me a mongrel. Im not brave enough for a colour that bold though. The tray looks great, very similar to what i have planned. although secretive discussions with a local timber dealer(they have been looking after us with house renos)is proving promising with the possibillity of silky oak for the tray. They may know someone that has it stored away, as you cant get silky oak new anymore. Fingers crossed.

See the torana in the new street machine has no padded dash pad. It's a Qld car too.

yeah, definitely not legal. We've got a plan now anyway so it should be fine.

Cool, hopefully it involves something soft there. For once its not a stupid rule, it actually makes sense. If you were to crash this ute, the passengers head would be split open on a solid dash.

Yeah, but let's face it, if this ute is in such a bad crash that the passengers head hits the dash then they're both stuffed.

Oh, and yes our plan does involve a soft pad. No point worrying about getting defected over a dash pad : )

I agree, if your head hits the dash you should have been wearing a seatbelt. But that's the rules, I guess
Ps. Once again, Tim.... I love your work :)
