One is ejector seat (007 model only) other is Nitros (factory option)I just painted my dash and noticed there is 2 cut outs above the cig lighter.. Were these used at all by factory or are they there for aftermarket switches...I have never seen them with switches in there and I personally think they are in a stupid spot ...just my opinion..
Nice job on the dash! Fact paint code?

Came up really schmick, and I've love to see some shots of it all in there. Is that one of the RareSpares 'SS' Ashtrays? What other processes and stuff did ya go through like sanding it all down with different grades? What type of paint etc?
I should stop asking questions now

yes it is the woodgrain dash and a rare spares ash tray.
I removed the inserts with a little bit of heat from a heat gun, (just to soften the glue). They come off easy.
I then sanded the lot with 400 grit.
Masked it and painted with pressure pack...very thin coats but lots of them....
The worst bit was masking it all up, and trying to find rivets that would fit in the holes to put the ash tray facia on.
The paint I used was Power plus snb 150 quicksilver (pj9112)
I will put claer over it after the glove box lid gets its graphics (if we do them)

This was applied this morning....
But now I have to sand the whole car again Because I had the air pressure too low and got a bit of splatter on the car......Oh well it will be much smoother after it is sanded.
I am happy now and I hope it will be painted very soon

Awesome pic record of the build. Something you'll treasure in years to come.
Nice dash work too. Little tip for the silver around the outside and other trim
on the centre console. Go to your newsagent and buy one of those thin silver
paint pens, with the ball bearing in them. With a steady hand you can make it
come up really nicely. No masking needed. Very forgiving too.
Those cut out bits on the back of the dash are for the sedan version. The hatch
as you know has room for three switches in the escutcheon panel. The sedans
dont have this panel and therefore have the demister and aerial switch up on
the dash.
Great project mate.

I finally got to spray some colour on the hatch today, And I am very pleased with the results..
I have only put the first three coats on ( I ran out of paint ) so it does not have a glossy finish. It is 2 pack paint so it needs to be cleared off..
I have NEVER painted a car or done panel beating before in my life and I was blown away with the results I have acheived.
Once again I will be sanding the car back, this time with 1200 to make it extra smooth before applying another four litres of colour then about six litres of clear....I want a deep colour with a very shinny finish that I can polish several times with out cutting into the colour...
Any way thats enough talk and here are the pics.....

How did you go spraying the 2pac as a novice? Did u use a booth? all the correct safety stuff?

No I did not use a booth, (I dont have enough resources if you know what I mean $$$$) But I did use breathing gear, as I use them every day with work obtaining spare gear was not a problem
I dont see the real need for a booth if you pick the right day and time to spray...
It has been around 24 degrees the last few days with not a breath of wind at all, so I consider myself very lucky
I found it very easy to paint once you do all the preparation and get your pressure and technique right.
I have also had friday off work so I got to spend some extra time on it...
The torana is stored at work so if I get a spare minute between jobs I try and do a bit to it.
The girlfriend used to go with a painter and she is a car nut too... She has helped me in soo many ways and is supporting me so much, if I didnt have her I would have probably given up when I stuffed up the black base coat yesterday (she actually picked what I done wrong so we could fix it) it didnt take me long to resand the whole car again im getting good at that...and the fact that she went to work at 430 am and woke me up helped a bit too...
I probably wont be able to do much more to it for a few days now as I have to order more paint, and get my panel gaps right. I have my kids this coming week end so that stops all work for a few days, then the next week end is the kadina show so I will be taking the girl friends car to that (wish I could take my own )
I am glad that I can inspire other people to do their cars because every one here has been such a great inspiration to me.....

dont go 1200 then paint over that, it will be too smooth and the paint wont bite in, go around 600.
other than that its looking good!
