On saturday we drove from Dubbo - Armidale - Dubbo, it took us around 11 hours total.
I have moved my Statesman over to his shed while we do the panel/paint work at my place. He only lives around the corner about 100m away .
So far his plans are:
Cut out rust and weld in patches
Paint it a purple colour, unless he changes his mind again. Yesterday it was blue
Fix any suspension issues that it has, long with brakes etc.
Some form of bucket seats for the front
Rego and enjoy for a little while.
Phase 2 plans are 500hp Turbo'd SR20 . Hopefully this will happen sooner rather than later!
We are planning on having this painted in the next month or two, we dont want this to drag on forever. We are planning 4 hours per night, 4 weekdays and 1 full day on the weekend until its done. He owes me .

We stuck in a twin webbered 2 litre pinto motor. Was a good little car.
Look forward to seeing it progress.

Today we started stripping it and stripped the suspect areas for rust/dints. Its amazing how simple these cars are, its basically stripped now are we hardly removed anything!
The front and rear screens were the first thing to come out, the windscreen channels are perfect. No signs of even surface rust!
This is the nastiest dent/repair. Someone had a great time butchering this then bogging it.
Another previous repair
Ohh yeah, rust under there
Driver side sill
Passenger side dodgyness
The drivers side rear door also has a bit of rust down the bottom.
If i get a chance tomorrow ill start stripping it back to bare metal.

These things are real popular classics over here, especially with the 'young folk' with engine transplants and the like.
Check out this if you have time, its NZ based (and hence awesome) but might give you a few ideas. The high dollar build is more the exception than the norm, but they're keen enough to give someone an earful for dodgy modifications.

500 horse SR???????..........Ummmmmmmm!
Supposedly possible *shrug*. He already has forged pistons and rods and a massive turbo, slightly larger than an xr6t garret... Cant remember the specs. It would be a laggy pos whatever it makes . I think he might have a crank to stroke it too, i dont know. Nissan engines not really my thing .

We did a bit more stripping tonight, Neil removed more chrome and door handles etc etc while i stripped the paint. Were about half way done now .
Found a bit more rust behind the chrome strip, damn.
The drivers side guard, not as bad as the passenger. I will probably just keep this repair but panel beat it smooth first.
This is the back of the bonnet, not sure how we will tackle this one yet since i cant get to the rear of the panel. We will probably just bog it again *shrug*.
Brazil Nuts anyone?

The more we stripped the 'better' it got, someone loves pot riveting pieces of steel over rust.
Heres the corner of the 1/4 cut out
The spare wheel well, loverly eh. Turns out bog CAN be used as glue.
Most of the wheel well unpicked
Tomorrow we will cut the rest of the well out and start making the replacement panel.
The exciting news is my neighbour two doors down gave me an entire 2k paint system, well some tins were empty but we had enough blue/silver/white/pearls to make a custom mix of paint. I think it will look awesome, i think we put way to much pearl in it tho . Its a darkish blue in the dark, heaps metallic light blue in some light that flips to a few different purple colours. Very very purple under fluro lights. We mixed around 5L of paint and still have tonnes of other colours left over for later projects too!
