Finally it feels like we have done something positive to the car rather than just stripping and cutting it up :P.

Here i have started to unpick the drivers rear 1/4 panel

mmm rusty
Posted Image

Posted Image

Somehow i missed taking a photo with the entire inner and outter panel removed, but in the next few photos you can see that we have replaced the entire piece and started to weld the replacement panel in! Woohoo!

mate of mine had one of these but a GT version, had a lotus motor in it. this was back in the early 90's and it was put off the road for rust.

Its been a long time since i've updated, since then i've spent 8 days in hospital with pneumonia and then decided to head up to Brissie to recover in some warmth (ha). I visited Dirtbag while i was in the area and did a whole lot of nothing.

Neil talked to an engineer today and got the thumbs up to join the chassis rails, he also mentioned 4 link rear end to him and he said show him what we are planning and he would decide :P.

I cut more of the old rail out and stuck some 65x35x2mm RHS between the front and rear rails, i initially thought id have to put a slight bend in the rail but turns out with minimal work it fits! Just have to make sure Neil is happy then tack it in and do the other side :). You can see where the old rail went from the stub of RHS bracing left over, a little bit of persuasion had it lining up with the rear rail.

The bead roller must almost be in the country by now, i cant wait to start working making the new floors!

Today i spent a bit of time making a stand for my ebay 'panbrake', i just used some of the 50x50x2mm that i bought for the chassis. I also managed to get my supercheap sandblaster working, i tested it out by sandblasting the remaining chassis rails so i could weld in the RHS.

I've tacked the rail in place, I also stuck in a bit of 50x50 RHS to join back up to the transmission tunnel. I sprayed some weld through primer inside the rails before tacking the RHS in so its not metal on metal.

I felt like I got a bit done today, i stopped getting side tracked with other things. I actually remembered to take my camera out to the shed and use it so i have loads of pics :).

Heres the drivers side rail, its clamped in place atm. I just need to sandblast and prime inside the old rails before i can tack it in.
Posted Image

This is where a chassis brace used to live, it kinda just fell off when i cut it from the chassis :/
Posted Image

Heres another wonderful 'rust repair', a sheet of steel glued over rust. mmm nummy
Posted Image

another angle of the inner sill bit
Posted Image

Here i have removed the lower 1/4 of the front guard to get access to the rust.
Posted Image

Posted Image

A little patch, you've gotta start somewhere?
Posted Image

Posted Image

If i get bored ill remake this outter piece, it just doesnt look right, not that you'll ever see it.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Thats a nice lower guard repair, i hope i can replicate a fantastic repair like this!
Posted Image

Outer sill removed
Posted Image

Replacement sill, the person who cut this off didnt really cut out all the sill we needed so i have to remake the lower lip. Still, its easier than trying to recreate that shape i guess :P.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Heres the new metal folder on the stand i made yesterday.
Posted Image

dont buy bunnings G-clamps :@.
Posted Image

Lower lip folded up, just need to trim and tack it on.

nice work, i saw a couple of mk2 cortinas at the pick a part in dapto yesterday.

yeah those g clamps must come from the same sweat shop the supercheap ones come from, i broke one pushing the piston back in on my uc caliper, and it wasnt very tight

Good too see your making some progress ! thats not just any kind of restoration you've got going on! the thing will take a big block with that chassis ;-)

one of the biggest things for people to understand is how BLOODY cold it is in the shed right now!!!!!! , well out west here it been freezing & achieving any sort of after hours work is a mission ! bring on daylight saving & warmer whether i say !

I hear what your saying, a big block is really a nessesity with the full chassis :).

Its ridiculously cold atm, i haven't felt like working on the car coz its just too cold in there. I feel bad making noise after the sun goes down. At least the sun has come out the last few days!

Thanks mate!

The long awaited bead roller turned up fresh off the sea! I still can't use it tho because USPS seems to have lost my package with the die's in it :Headbang2:. I ordered the die's by air separately thinking they would turn up well before the bead roller :(.

It works well WHEN the hose doesn't clog up with sand. It really needs a hopper to feed it a metered amount. When its not clogged it does a good job.
