Just had a look at a very original looking 1592 date coded rack housing I have and it has remnants of black paint on the alloy part.

i have a heap of stuff to go to the platers and and also to be re painted and need the following finishes;
1) linkages for M20 - i assume that they are plated - silver , the ones i had were painted gold under the red and i have wire brushed them back to metal and cannot tell if they are plated, they should be ?
2) bumper bar brackets - satin black
3) bumber bar brakets - the small ones that connect to the side of the car on each corner

lastly - the sun visors , parts that screw onto the roof lining and also the mirror stem seem to have a painted as i can scratch it off , is this correct ?

G/day Grant

1) M20 linkages. (per my original 4/73 LJ) Not sure what the blackish grey finish on the shift rods would be called but not zinc or cad plated. Maybe some form of bluing or sprayed hot metal finish?

2) Front bar brackets (chassis rail ones) - Chassis black so satin should be close enough.
3) All other front and rear bar brackets - silver zinc.

4) sunvisor mounts and rear vision mirror - Painted in a silver colour, but I have no clue as to the name or code for this colour.

Cheers
Dave.

thanks Dave\/ john

The linkages rods are a blue grey as you have said and may be i don't need to be plated at all, just some more wire brushing.
I may give one more clean up today with wire brush and also paint stripper and leave outside for two days to see if they start to show signs of rust then make the call.

If not re assemble the box all painted and clean.

Rear Spares has two consul 's and corresponding gear shift knob's

1) has the "h" pattern indicator on the consul and has a golf ball pattern on the ball and no " h " pattern
2) the other has no " h " indicator on the consul and the ball is smooth with the "h " pattern on the ball

Which one do I need, there is obviously a change over date between the two different one ?

G/day Grant

The H pattern indicator plate on the consul and the Roebuck grain pattern knob (ball)
are what you need for a LJ GTR.

Cheers
Dave

G/day Grant

Clear indicator lenses (park lights in the indicators). Std headlights (no park lights).
Your indicator bodies should have two wires and take a double filament globe.
The change over to amber lenses and park light headlamps wasn't until mid December '72 (approx).

Cheers
Dave

Hi Grant,

The rat trap is painted black grant, assemble it together, put grease on the metal pins, and bag it up,don't forget to do the metal pin on the cluch pedal too, that will be worn also, and check the metal strap what the clutch rod fits into, you will have to repair that too.

Regards John.

OK - Question

We are getting pretty close to the interior paint code and finishes;
What colour and the type ( satin etc) was the following parts
1) steering column and shroud - satin
2) steering wheel - gloss
3) metal facia across the dash / glove box

Don't stuff up guys as this will be gospel that I tell the shop.

Ps i have no idea

G/day Grant
40X trim?

If so you need Medium Gloss Black - Dulux (Dulon) paint code 578 04149.
Used for instrument panel (metal part) and glove box lid, steering column, inside upper of front A pillar (beside windscreen), front seat adjuster guard and seat side arms. The LJ GTR steering wheels appear to me to be the same black as the dash and steering column.

Cheers
Dave.

Hi Grant,

The boot bolts that go boot hinge are the same colour as the car,the bonnet bolts are a bit longer than the boot bolts,i do think HQ are bigger bolt larger because of the larger bonnet and different hinges, than the torana.

Regards John.

And the bolts that bolt to the bonnet are different to the ones that bolt to hinge frame in the engine bay.
