I'd agree that pro street look is tuff with big sidewall tyres but like it has been mentioned as long as the body has been massaged to suit the big wheel to give it the tuck look, that shits on a 15" wheel any day! Why do most show cars at Summernats run big wheels????????????

Because Australia is slowly becoming americanized...What they do we do.

Putting big rims on cars is pure coppy cat work.

Good thing is for those of us running comparatively small wheels is now days with all the wankers and there monster rims we look "individual" and "unique", so not a bad thing in every respect.

Cheers.

Well your average punter can't actually appreciate attention to detail very well, but putting big chrome plates on your car will get people looking at you.

And good luck getting on the front cover of street machine without them, but that isn't much justification lol

Think you nailed it Heath.

Like i really like your green machine. Most people bag it out butttt yeah i like it a lot.

Now how many times have you had someone tell you to put different rims on it hehehehee

Cheers.

Can you blame the trend of people putting bigger wheels on everything for the demise of decent 13 and 14" tyre sizes availble nowdays ?

"Hmmm...can't get wide enough 13's...better chuck some 20's on the torrie..."

Really?

I think thats half $$$ motivated and half trend motivated

If we were all still running 13 and 14" wheels then they wouldnt be hard to get, but OEM has gone continuously larger and larger....

But i also feel that the phasing out of smaller diameter tyres is partly $$$ motivated by the tyre companies.

For instance 15" tyres on forubies were very very common a year ago. Now there nearly impossible to find. Trust me im trying to find them at the moment.

Everywhere tells you "yep we can get them" and six weeks later and 10 phone calls there still not in yet.

But 16" fourby tyres are readily in stock EVERYWHERE. Oh but you also have to buy a set of rims off us.....

That rant over though, thats still no excuse for going to 20+" on a Torana. I have 15's for mine and i think thats just fine. I'd go to 17 on a box type one. Tyres for both the above sizes are easily obtainable.

Cheers.

I was out in mine earlier today...and took a quick side pic when I got home...aside from wanting the rear to come down maybe an 1", I am happy with the wheel proportion sizing. I could have went with any wheel combo at all I wanted (know alot of people in the custom billet wheel biz here) but like the road race feel and look of what I went with. And not overly modern looking in my opinion either.

Dattoman hit the nail on the head! Tyres aren't readily available in 14" 13" or even 15" these days so it has driven people to expand out to a bigger wheel which isn't all bad. Some of the moderately sized wheels up probably 17-18" don't look to bad. Some though I have to say look totally retarded.

That's the thing....even the most horrid looking wheels to some, are probably perfectly classy to the guy who put them on.....

I think this car illustrates the point
Take the wheels off and put something "normal" on it... and its fairly unexciting in itself
Bling it up with oversized wheels and people notice it
Its about WOW.... not performance

There used to a be a time when bigger wheels were put on to allow bigger brakes... but thats lost on most of todays crowd

And the way they all droop in the rear and have 4wd looks at the front shits me too

They look sweet and fill the rim nicely...

I have chosen these for mine on the left (330mm rotor 4 pot caliper) and on the right (356mm rotor 8 pot caliper). The engineer wouldn't allow me to have small brakes with the power mine will make, therefore a larger rim will be needed indeed.

I will go bigger rims at some stage as I will need a brake upgrade all round as I have 4w discs but still only small. I'm probably going to go for a 17" hotwire ... Lol

I don't mind the look of this car either, wouldn't wanna go any bigger with the wheels.
