I flicked over to Ten last weekend to watch the Winton round and it wasn't on till the second race on Sunday, what sort of coverage is that, crap I'd say.

Wasn't Crompton with 7 originaly when he couldn't get a full time drive? Then when 10 got the gig he was in the duldrums but eventually got rides with HRT in the enduroes, then full time with Gardner and later FPR? Then when they worked out his mouth was better than his driving, he went back to TV. I reckon his commentary is educated and informative compared to the likes of Darryl Eastlake and the likes. At least he has "been there done that" not only here but O.S.

Lots of bagging of Crompton, I'd love to see some of the baggers do a better job than him, he is well spoken, clear and knows what it is he is talking about, he can also steer a car very well, and always did a really good job at Bathurst. I will say his last race at Sandown was less than impressive when he punted Steve Richards.

The story is that Ch7 will run live Qual/top ten and race one Saturday's. Then on Sundays run Race two live then go to 3 hours of the footy and run DELAYED race three after 1700. If this is the case I will be happy because I reckon the Top tens are great to watch and quite often race 1 is where it all happens because it sets up your weekend as a driver. Then with one more live race on Sunday thats puts them up on Ch 10 who often run only 1 or non live.

Just hope they take a step forward in coverage and do it better than ever before because if not it could cost V8SA a Sh8tload.....

I wasn't around in the days of ch7 coverage so I can't comment on that or do a comparision, but I reckon 10 has done a lot for V8's in this country. They have put a lot of time and effort in when it was less popular and really have a large commitment to motor sport in general. So because of that I wish it hadn't moved, but again, I can't compare and who knows how good they will be. I reckon its a bit of a hard blow for em to lose the rights after putting so much into it.

As for Crompton, again, I'm no expert but I think his experience has added depth their coverage. I never really thought much of him as a driver, but the stuff he talks about it mostly new to me.

Just my 2c worth,

Peace,

I watched the old school Bathurst highlights DVDs recently (channel 7 days). I was absolutly blown away. I reckon the camera angles were much more creative and better than the shithouse job channel 10 does now! These days they just stick a few cameras up on a cherry pickers with a 30x zoom which gives absolutly no illustion of speed. As for the in-car telemetry and technology, not much has changed since the good old days. Don't get me wrong, theres not one show I watch on channel 7, but I think its about time something changed, if there was a bit of competition and something else to benchmark against maybe the bar would raise.

With Channel 7 having the V8's as well as the AFL makes me very sceptical as to who will get priority with the air time. I hope I'm wrong but my money would be on the AFL getting what they wanted as part of their deal over V8 Supercars.
Channel 7 did nothing to help motorsport when they had it last towards the end. Channel ten was the only station prepared to put their balls on the line and give V8 Supercars a go and are partly responsable for the popularity it enjoys today. Lets just hope channel 7 don't stuff it up and send motorsport to the background again.
Only time will tell. We just have to sit an wait to see how it all pans out. I just can't see how the AFL and V8 Supercars fans are both going to be kept happy. We all know which viewing adience is bigger.

I see the crap has started already thanks Ch7 and Grand Prix Corporation
Stuffed if i am going to watch just F1s the v8s there were great what will be on the other draw card no Go Karts

From Hearld Sun
THE V8s won't roar around Albert Park at next year's Australian Grand Prix.

The Formula One race lost one of its biggest drawcards yesterday after the V8 Supercar Australia board voted to pull out of the 2007 event.
It is a setback for GP organisers, who regained the right to host the opening round of the F1 season on March 15-18.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation chief Tim Bamford said yesterday's announcement had caught him off guard.

"We were a bit surprised to be honest and I don't know the reasoning behind it. They've given up racing here to go to Barbagallo (Raceway) after all," Bamford said.

"I can assure the fans we will provide them with the very best motor racing in the world and it will be every bit as exciting as it always have been. Let's not forget Formula One is the pinnacle of world motor racing and, from a Formula One point of view, we have practice on Friday, qualifying on Saturday and racing on Sunday."

Bamford refused to say what would take the place of the popular V8s next year.

V8 Supercar Australia chief Wayne Cattach insisted the decision to leave the GP was prompted by a date clash, and not by the V8s defection from F1 broadcaster Channel 10 to Channel 7 next year.

He said the V8 board intended to host the Perth round at Barbagallo Raceway in March to avoid a clash with AFL football on Channel 7, making it logistically impossible to race at Albert Park.

"Our planning for 2007 has been under way for several months since we announced that Seven will assume the broadcast rights from next year," Cattach said.

"These discussions include moving the Perth round outside the AFL season, due to the two-hour time difference of the western seaboard.

"We are disappointed we won't be attending."

Cattach said he was surprised when the date of next year's GP, and its clash with the world swimming titles, which are also in Melbourne, were announced.

V8 Supercars Australia was unhappy with the category's second-class status at the event but a new draft contract from the AGP had addressed most of its complaints.

V8 Supercar drivers contacted yesterday had mixed feelings about the decision.

"It's got to the point we no longer need to be a support event," V8 Supercar championship leader Garth Tander said. "I don't think our series will suffer for not being on the (F1) calendar."

But Ford star Craig Lowndes described the announcement as a shock.

"It is the biggest crowd we raced (in front of) and the Formula One mechanics, I think, took an interest in our racing, so, in that sense, it's disappointing," Lowndes said.

The Seven contract will ensure a guaranteed extra 20 per cent coverage
than the existing arrangements with Network Ten. This amounts to around
100 hours of LIVE race coverage compared to the current 79. This is all
LIVE. In additional there will be more specialised programs dedicated to
V8 Supercars, stronger cross-promotion and increased presence on the
network. It also allows for LIVE Saturday coverage in additional to the
traditional LIVE Sunday race coverage. There is between two and four
clashes with Seven's AFL telecast but this will not affect Sunday race
coverage. There will only be minimal changes to next year's calendar.

In regards to the support categories for the F1, I would suggest that
you contact the Melbourne Grand Prix office for further details.

Kind regards

You need to remember 7 changed the coverage of motorsport..not only here..but for the world with the pencil lense. The money from advertisers in those days was thin to say the least..7 lost shit loads each year on it..Now it is a different story..my mail is all the old gurus are back with some pretty smart young computer kids so I reckon it will be bigger and better. Lets not bag it until we see it..then vent your opinions. We aussies are great at shit loading something b4 it happens then going..I thought it was a great idea all the time...WAIT! WATCH! then give your opinion. Just my 2cs.

And I cant believe there has been 79 hours of "live" TV !!

I see that in todays paper the footy rights have been announced and i see that
CH 7 Melb has one AFL game on Sunday afternoon

Does that mean that the V8s will be shown late afternoon or 11:30 at night like the old days.

CH 7 Melb have no footy on Saturday so maybe they move the racing to Saturdays so we can see a days racing :spoton:

There is a write up in todays herald sun car guide.
"As near as possible to race time" and "the clipsal telecast on time with the race" or something like that. A little too open ended I reckon.
The footy will take preference I reckon.

I believe the schedule will be on:
Saturday Live Qualifying and Race one.
On Sunday Live race two then off to the Footy followed immediately by a delayed Race three.
So if that is the case it is a lot more live content than Ten ever did, because non of tens sunday stuff was live it was nearly alway's on delay. Either that or Bigpond V8 live site are Psychic's..
