Thanks for posting. Simliar set up to mine as well. I also agree that the strokers are the way top go to achieve bigger numbers but I am a staunch 308 fan and wanted old skool 308 power as not too many go down that path anymore simply because of the relatively cheap prices for the stoker kits nowadays.

Ta, good read indeed. Fair bit more HP than mine though, 400 out of a non stroked 308 is pretty full on. Some big cam choices in there.

Hi guys just thought I would add my combo. Don't have any hp figures but its best at willowbank is 12.20@110mph.
Stock stroke 308. standard bottom end with flat top pistons .060 over. Heads are red hq hreads, ported to roughly l34 spec 1.94 intake valves and 1.6 exhaust. Crow cams solid. Stripmaster manifold. 2" hvh carby spacer. 750hp street carby down jetted. Roller rockers. comp was 11:1 static.
Before the 750hp street carby I had a 650dp holley with a best of 12.40@108mph bolted the 750 on and dropped 0.2 and picked up 2mph. Had to drop 3 jet sizes all the way around but thats it.
Thanks

A combo i know of in an LX hatch.

VN 304 stock crank & rods

Ported stock heads

Camtech solid flat tappet cam, roller rockers

Harrop single plane manifold 750HP Holley carb

Re-graphed Bosch HEI distributor

Stock 5/16" fuel line, OzRace mechanical fuel pump.

Off the shelf Pacemaker headers, dual 2 1/2" exhaust

Built by Ned Sassine from Hercules Competition Engines, it made around 480+bhp on pump fuel (98) & running a Top Loader trans, 3.7 gears & full exhaust this car recently ran an 11.2@124mph with a slipping clutch. A forum member disputed this claim not long ago in another thread but i know a few other members who seen this car in action on the day & also know it was driven to the track & the only changes made were to fit slick tyres before bolting the radials back on to drive it home. I can post pics for those interested as the owner is a friend of mine.

i havent added to this for a while. been busy with the car.
i`ve rebuilt my engine, just a freshen up, new rings and bearings, i had hurt the mains, but caught it in time.
dont know if a mentioned sprint event i did, i actually got oil surge, 1st time this has happened with the sump i was using(high energy pro circuit),
well after chatting to some people, and some sponsor help, i have fitted a dry sump setup to my engine.
oil pressure is the best it has EVER been.
just finished running in the engine, and have been sorting some teething issues.
if all goes well i plan on hitting the track ( for the perth people, its the twilight sprint at kwinana)
so fingers crossed, been almost 6 months since last event, im hangingfor this.

we just put togeather an engine for my brothers gemini, its stock stroke 308, bushed rods with floating hypertech pistons, hq big valve heads, mild port job, 286 hydraulic cam and 10.5 comp, with the dual plane manifold and a 950hp methanol holley it made 187kw at the wheels at 5500 and climbing but popped a head gasket, round 2 is about to begin , we have put a single plane manifold now and locked the dizzy up as its a skid car but hoping for around the 210kw mark at 7000. will let you know.

Good starting point. My only comment though is with the 286 crane you are lucky to develop power after 6k so 7k would not happen. I swaped from the 286 to the 304 Crane (next one up) and the power started rolling over at 5600rpm. The cars certainly revs a lot harder than 5600rpm on the road. Mind you that is what the Performer dual plane manifolds are rated to so perhaps that is why power stopped climbing. Mine made 210 RWKW @ 5600.

Be interesting to see what you end up with. Post up your results. Keen to see.

Hi everyone, my name is Graham. Just new to this forum so introducing myself and my toy. I have a HZ well back ute 355 , turbo 400 and 9", haven't had it on th dyno yet but should do in the next month or so. This ute has been an ongoing project for the last 18 years. Just had the stroker built it has all the good gear 304 block, crane roller cam, -9 alloy heads, Harrop single plane intake, 750 HP Holly, MSD ignition. It is a lot of fun to drive. I like reading about other peoples projects and am keen to get to now some of you .

We have our annual dyno day in a couple of weeks so it will be interesting to compare notes on another dyno. We have some very staunch engine combos in our club so will be an interesting day indeed.

gday all the little gemini i posted about a couple months ago ended up making 218.6kw at 6400 rpm, i think the methanol helped it maintain the power up that high, and the high comp. very impressed for a budget basic build.

Nice effort. Surprsising result using the 286 camshaft. Big power jump from your last combo too.

Car is running a 4 speed Saginaw gearbox with 3.55 in the 9inch. Many people say the Sag wont stand up down the track and I would like to change it to a muncie but it will do for now.

Any power figures Wayno, keen to see your results.

After seeing my two mates run their cars at the drags yesterday and post good quarter times, I kind of wish i went for a small solid cam now like the CC280. Maybe next time :-)

Actually the dyno only ran today due to some teething problems fitting the engine on the dyno and the guy being busy. It ran 398HP @ 6300RPM and he was expecting around 370HP so all in all pretty happy. I managed to go there this arvo before he had to pull it off the dyno and actually here it run since March this year and I must say it sounds even more angry than it used to. Had a CCH314 hydraulic cam before but with a shot lifter and a spun crank bearing. Still ran pretty well spinning in 2nd gear back then but definately sounds better now. I cant wait to have it back into the car and run it down the 1/4.

Heres the link to it running today on the dyno, not a HP run though just to show me it running.
