and rodomo,my mates torana battery i used to try start it te other day,fitted back in the torana and started straight away.

Check your motors ground strap, would seem you might have a very resistive/bad ground.the solenoid is on the side of the starter...

Both. Grounds are very important in any electrical circuit. also make sure teh facing recess for teh starter is clean as this is the way the starter gets ground.which ground u talking bout tim?i got 2.1 going from block to battery and 1 going from block to metal on firewall.

This coming from someone who raves about Hillman's and Galants...Ok, couple of this... Pat and J&S, he is runnign a 351 FRAUD motor, so if he actually got the VS starter in there then the only good bit would be the starter...
