ok guys as Norm's book estimates around 135 genuine SS hatchbacks
If you look at the notes on the bottom of the page the figures are dated 1976.
Those figures don't include all the LX Toranas built after 'whenever in 1976' the data was recorded.

Hatches weren't officially released until March '76 (although there are some around dated earlier than that) so those figures couldn't reflect more than 9 months of a 24 month production run, hardly representative of total numbers.
Although to be fair, it says the SPLIT is based on the data, not the total numbers.

Yes StephenSLR but that data sheets do show A9X build numbers on it, so who really knows what those records are. Interesting though!

True, it is odd, the A9X would likely be projected figures for the following year; it does say 'verified production schedule' and they'd need a minimum number for homologation.

I am not sure how many of you may have seen it (in the latest edition of AMCM) but the numbers are finally out regarding the LX SS 5000 variant.
After much research and number crunching, we can now reveal the correct* build numbers of the following LX Torana variants.
Many thanks to Ben Stewart from Holden Historical Services for his time and patience to collate these figures.
Model Eng Qty Built Notes
Model 8VD77 5.0 521 SS with 5.0lt Option
Model 8VD77 5.0 100 SS with A9X Option
Notes
*Build Qtys for all LXs are taken from the GM-H Vehicle Master Listing dated 31/01/1978. These figures represent the minimum build number due to non-listing of some units.
It is hoped that in the future the list will be expanded on with regards to data on Transmission types and Factory A/C cars built.
It is also hope that figures will be attained for the 4.2 and 3.3lt versions of the SS as well as the LX SL/R models.

I own a mandarin red 76 LX SS hatch L31 M21 so count me in !!
Also there is debate on that number of 135 !! Can you please explain how this number is achieved , as I belive this number was of productions up until late 76 ! This number does not include 77 and 78 cheers Torana heads !! I'm also looking for a heater box for LX , needs to be vacuum controlled .
you quoting 78 numbers for lx L31
so i am led to believe the a9x was the last of the L31 engined cars
anything after that run which finished in dec 77
any produced into early 78 were L32
correct me if i,m wrong

We are however chasing down a lead about an SS L31 that was produced during the A9X production run.. More to follow on this one.

It'll be identical to any other early 1976 Torana or Holden passenger vehicle from Dandenong Kirk, other than the Torana specific bits like chassis number and text as to what the car is.
