G'day lads haven't been on for a while been busy, I am in the process of working out a brake / steering upgrade for the ute. I have a disc brake UC rear end, which is close enough to standard track so will be a straightforward swap over, new spring hangers and a new tailshaft should see it right.
The question remains over the front end.
I am thinking maybe a UC front end, using the rack and pinion steering, but the track is 50mm bigger than standard FJ. I reckon the right wheels will sort that out, the question is, how much clearance around the disc caliper is there for messing about with wheels? I will most likely be using 15X7 rims with low profile tyres to keep in the standard gaurds.
Benefits as I see them is that the brakes will be matched front / rear and I will get a decent rack mounted in a stock set up, as well as being able to use a UC sump and pick up.
Apart from the offset question, is the front end the same accross UCs fitted with disc front / drum rear or were they different (I expect that the proportioning valve would be diferent)
Also, the bore diameter of the booster? I am thinking hot rod style lever action from the pedal to a rear mounted booster under the tray floor at this stage, XA Ford master (1 inch bore I beleive) / Gemini booster as per the hot rod boys - got to keep the fire wall clean!
Thaks in advance for any input!
Cheers
Doug
