I have had this 202 HJ Kingswood for a couple of years now making sure it stays in the family as it has since 1979. It failed registration and i was given it by my Grandmother and i got it on the road and drove it around for a year. In that time i bought my first Hatch and the Kingswood rego ceased and it stayed in the garage and now sits outside under a car cover. It has been through 2 moves one from Sydney to the Central Coast and one within the Central Coast and i must admit it is the best car i have driven! Maybe not for the steering or the body roll but just the feeling of driving it and the looks it got ( Good or Bad ).

This is how it sits now.

The Motor has been pulled out and a free motor put in its place so it can still be moved around. The original motor is in pieces in my shed getting a full rebuild to standard specs. With the standard Column shift trimatic.

The Kingswood is going to be put on the road first so when the Hatch is off the road i will still have transportation. So far the plans for the Kingswood are to put it back to original including the paint and interior but with white wall tyres and the original hubcaps. Lots of busy weekends coming up! If anyone can give me tips on preping the panels feel free to do so. But i will be looking in the Paint and Panel section to.

Cheers

P.S. the old Kingswood reminds me of Kingwood country, absolute classic. :D :D :D

I pulled the front right 1/4 panel off today to get it ready to paint. Stripping the panel back to bare metal takes a while but i am slowly getting there. Saves spending money at the panel beaters.

A WB RTS front end would be a nice thing to have, or are you leaving it completely original?

hz and wb both have rts which is ment to make them handle 1000x better than the non-rts front's, i've never driven a kingsy with rts so im not sure. Id swap my front out for rts but i want to keep the body numbers matching the rails.

How come you using a hq boot lid, or is that just a temp thing?

Ahhh come on Josh you can give it a few personal touches; doesn't have to be perfectly original.

I had to do a search to find this old Topic. But shes alive again... The Topic not the Car. She survived another move on the back of a tow truck to our current place nestled snuggly in the garage away from the elements. This is how she was before i started stripping her completly down for a rebuild.

Started to pull the front end off to make it easier to remove the engine and gearbox as one. As the Radiator support panel comes out.

Found some Chunky rust when i "removed" the front windscreen.. Here is what i found.

I was hoping to have her on the road this year.... Chances are slim i think...

Cheers

wow. i knew that the windscreen area is prone to rust in the HQ-HZ but never thought about what was behind it! whats the plan to get in behind it?

Going to cut the whole panel out as you can buy complete panels from rares i think and pull the whole dash out and attack it from both angles... Not sure if i am confident enough to tackle it though... Might be a panel beater job..

Go for it josh!

I know that's probably as good as the monaro's windscreen surrounds would look if i ever had to pull out the screen!

Good on ya for getting it happening!
