So is it possible to buy a proper 8cyl manual radiator for a Torana if you don't have one, mine is from ? and has the engine side fin bend towards the engine plus it needs a recore.

1uzbt1 (Matt) tuns a radiator shop here in Perth
I bought a rad off him years ago for a V8 Torana and I think that was the big Holden style and needed the band modified to fit a Torana

Some people cut the rails to allow them to slide the rad in
I'd personally mod the rad before I mod the car

There was a V8 rad core on ebay for awhile.... if you had an orig unit you could recore it
I think Matt has mentioned in other threads cores can still be had
But the whole Torana rad isn't and you have to use a H series one

Thanks for that insight Datto! Yeah I did see that core on eBay for $200 a few weeks ago. If I had of had the correct tanks I would have grabbed it...

Good point above by Terra... I didnt think about this... Using a 3 core will not allow the use of the fan guard unless its lengthened, something I saw Napes_au do.

do you mean the proper shroud( which torries never had, or the fan finger guard that connects to the the hood catch.

Yeah I meant the fan guard. The one that Torries had.

Spotted this radiator on eBay, says its original NATRA? 2 core? But still to suit a H series Holden.

Yeah I know, I think it will be a hard ask to find the correct Manual Torana radiator, and if there are only Auto H series ones only on the market, I think Im stuffed... Would be an expensive exercise to source a U/S 2nd hand 2 core manual Torana radiator to then have to get it re-cored...

So your after a manual 2row v8 Radiator for a torana, you will probably hard pressed to find one new as all natra new Rad are auto, I'm sure you cant by them to suit torana as well only h series as you have found.

I see your main problem is finding the torana bands to suit the rad,you can turn a auto bottom tank whether new or used easy enough by plating the auto holes in the tank and fill the hole with a little solder to make it look correct/flush.

factory original radiators for V8 Toranas are 2 core with 1/2" cores. Factory aircon cars had 3 core 1/2" cores.

What actually has to be done to a H series Rad to make it fit a Torana? Are the mounting strips on the sides to wide? And need cutting down?

I'm not 100% sure for those and I haven't seen one in over 10 years, I've got a set of torry big tank bands that I've put away for a silly owner with more money than sense.

Mark, I always think Toyota red is pretty good but most oe coolants aren't to bad, also as Neil said the holden green and red ain't bad either.

The mounting strips are about 7mm per side too wide and the core sit closer to the motor by 10mm, you end up with a big gap between the support panel and the radiator.

Ah.. I didnt realize there would be a gap between the rad and support... Thats a bugger... Just looked at an old photo of the rad fitted and yeah your right....

See the gap.... Wonder if a Radiator shop could remove the mounting strips and set them closer to the motor so the rad sits flush?

Just fit torana side bands if you have them.

you can use hq<>hz sidebands with little modification if you have a 6cyl torana strap you can use it as a template{ same pattern as v8 }just turn them back to back mark and cut as for the engine side you only have to trim to allow access for bottom bolt? the tanks you have would be suited for that application the bottom tank has a two skinned tube for auto which can be totally removed to suit manual ? ps a hk ,t,g, strap and tanks also would suit that application with no mods given you would then be using a 38mm core being a two core heavier f,p,i {fins per inch} as well as wider tubes /?
cheers

If you really want the correct Rad, get on the phone to a few radiator shops and see what they may have lying around, if they are anything like us they will have a stockpile of tanks and bands left over from the good ol days and now the time of year to do it as most would be fairly quite and have time to do it.

Ill give it a go, however we only have 2 or maybe 3 Radiator shops here, and most places round here dont want to do anymore then they have to, so asking them to dig through old stock would be useless.

Customer who the what know? When I take jobs into places around here, it genuinely feels like I am putting them out by paying them money to do a task. If they do take it on, its usually several weeks later its done after plenty of phone calls to them.

I know one of the Rad shops in town recently moved premises, so I dare say they would of had a clean out during the move.

No Im not in a hurry as I still have to fit the engine to the car and buy a radiator... Anytime between now and around Xmas if you do get a chance mate.
