Ok, it works out that im down in Vic from October 14 to October 21. I'm sure ill get a couple of day trips to Melbourne from wang in that time!

I dont plan on getting too under the table, maybe a couple of spirited drinks or two... Depends on what mood the Mrs is in i suppose! Thats saying - if she comes!

I'll grab some phone numbers and destination details closer to the date eh!

Cheers

Ok, i've come to a big decision guys, very big...

I'm going to strip the 253 in my new LX, put some decent horsepower parts in it, throw a nice carby on it and put it in my UC. Thats not to say the Injected motor is not gonna happen...

I have no deadline for the LX to be finished, so i'm gonna strip it completely, sandblast it, prime it, buy a fuel injected V8 for it (probably a chev), a nice stalled auto, throw a 9" under the rear, retro-fit the chev, pull it back out, paint the car then re-fit the motor, customise the interior then register it.

As i said there is no deadline, but i'm assuming this will happen and be done and driving by this time next year if not earlier.

Big change, but it means the UC stays on the road (so i have a car to drive)!!

And the LX is going to be far from standard...
Cheers

Nice.. u must luv the v8's haha They do have that nice note. and look awsome in the bay.

So wen will the v8 go in?, before your big cruise? would be awsome on the highway.. 3.08 diff with a 5th gear... about 2grand on highway.

only takes about 2-3days to do a v8 conversion, would be easy just pull it out n drop it in, no screwin around  but i guess u probly wanna work it pretty hard so its not slower then the 179 :D

What's the requirements for going V8 in a UC up there in QLD guys?

I'm sure it's an engineer's certificate down here in Vic....dunno what's required though..... I assume chassis strengthening kit as the chassis was lightened by GMH as there was never a V8 intended to go in.

Would like this conversion too.....that was first intention with running gear from hatch.

v8 Springs

Thats all that was needed, pretty easy :spoton:

dont need any chasis stenthning here.. maybe if it was a massive power v8 haha

but the chasis in the same as lx lh,

That sounds nice and simple Nath!
Mmm, I'm sure I read the chassis was lightened.
Can anyone confirm this?

Curious now...

I cant 'confirm', but i can go off what i've been told before... I own both an LX and UC and i cant see anything visual to say they are different, but yeah...

This is a quote from a mate
"My old UC used to twist like crazy with my 308 in it - if your making much more than 200hp you'll need a chassis kit".

He used to own a UC (as you probably guessed), the motor was just a mildly worked 308 and an auto box, probably making around the 200kW mark. I will get the 253 in and running properly before i get the chassis kit as i dont tend to flog my car around! I'm a miss daisy driver! Built to cruise!

Cheers
Keith

P.S. Dr Terry, do you have any input regarding the chassis strength of the UC? Is it any different from an LX or LH at all? It looks the same to me, but thats not to say there's a difference!

the front of the Uc's bend easier but i think that's due to crumple zones :spoton:

^ I think you've got them mixed up with crumpledore's!! I've hit 2 dogs and a roo before in my UC, the front end has never had panel work apart from the spray job you see... Even the bumper bar still has original 'roo dents' in it!! Never straightened...

Keith

P.S. Good luck with the venture munro...

My cousin hit a roo at about 80km/h in his UC... all it did was smash a headlight. Didnt even scratch the paint.

sorry guys i was talking about harder knocks than that.
where an Lx will bend bumpers and crush nosecones the Uc will tend to kink the chassis just infront of the cross member "that's where the crumple zone is"
and if it hits really hard the second zone is about a foot infront of the windscreen.

we used to weld plates ove the front zone to strengthen them this worked well but was fround apon by the dep of transport

The dogs ran away, but not before i got out of my car and yelled some obsenities at them (they ran out chasing a roo)... That was at about 80km/h...

I like the plate idea, but of course it'll kill any oncoming traffic in the event of an accident... They're strong enough as they are, let alone the extra steel plate in them!!

A quick bit of info on the Torry (my original one - dark bluey)...

I did the 10 000km service on her yesterday, adjusted my roller rockers (sweet as now), re-torqued the head and manifolds and flushed the radiator and block. On top of that i did an oil change! Not that it needed new oil - it's had about 8 oil changes in its life of 10 000km...

I'm letting the engine cool down right now before i give the bay a good wash and wax, then i'll do the rest of the car! There's a Peter Brock memorial cruise in Townsville today at 3pm, i'll go and take some photos and post them up here when i get home!

On another note, the green UC has had the rust cut out and been in for its roadworthy (pics to follow). It had my old wheels on it when it went in, and was missing one when it came out... The ba$tard mechanic busted one of my tyres... I mean BUSTED - it pierced a hole in the sidewall... Thats a shame cos those tyres are REAL expensive and they were 3yrs old with 50% tread left on them! My backup wheels they were... Nevertheless, the green UC only needs a couple of small things to get roadworthy and then its all good. We did the wheel bearings yesterday, replaced a couple of things, fixed some other things and now there's bugger all left to do!

The LX is under the cover of a tarp in my back yard at the moment to prevent weather getting the better of it... I'm pulling the motor out of it soon and stripping it down, rebuilding it with some performance parts and throwing it in my UC in november/december. Then i'll be on the hunt for a fuel injected chev for the LX and the project begins....

Cheers, ill be back this arvo with pics for ya!!

Righto... Where to start! I have about 100 photos that i want to put up for you guys, but due to some of ya's being on dial up it'll take forever so i'll put the good ones up... In order!

Firstly, my UC:

I did the roller rockers as you know, i have a couple of shots of while i was doing them and the engine bay as it is now... I have had about 50 people comment on my car lately in town (came up and shook my hand!), and i really dont know what the fuss is about, but i'll put em up regardless!

Unfortunately my car is now having the drop tank fitted tomorrow due to staffing problems at the place it was booked in at... But i'm definitly having photos on here for you to see... Should look good!!

Also, i have some cleaner shots of the LX Torana (dubbed - Project SLR 5000i) too... Thank god i mowed the lawn today, makes it look better! Although it's in really good condition already... Maybe it makes my yard look better! Nah... My yard's fit for the Queen herself... It's a win win situation!

And the green UC is not too far away from being roadworthy too... I went over to my mates place (who now owns it) and gave him a hand for the last couple of days to fix the minor probs... The hardest thing we have to do to get it roadworthy is a Stabilizer bar "D" bush... Thats it... Everything else was just globes or general crap!!

The drop tank is going in at a later date... Fuel sender issues (commodore pump to torana sender does not work)... It looks as though it'll be a no go for the drop tank on the trip to brisvegas and further to melbourne. BUGGER!!

Cheers (sad)

LXCHEV's name is Brett, I'll see you there too! :D
You'll have to show me how a hot holden six feels in an LH/LX/UC. I still haven't been in a hot six Torrie
...that's if you bring the car down, something tells me you aren't driving down though.

How did that happen to the tyre? Is he going to compensate you?
