Time for an update.

As usual big plans over holidays don't work. Christmas has come and gone, and I'm not that much further. Have done some small things, but up until this week nothing major. This week was paint week, again.

Also I have played aroung with my dash. Still work in progress, but getting there.

Any way as mentioned before, pictures tell a thousand words.

now I am working on my fuel lines, oil lines, then my brake lines. Not really looking forward to these. Never done them before and guessing my way through really.

Oh well, just like the rest of the car. I will have a go, and if at first I don't succeed I will try agian, and again

Doing the different lines are not that bad (to me at least, I enjoy doing stuff like that) just a matter of thinking it through and mocking up things different ways to find the best route for everything.  (I spent some time trying to figure out how to run my fuel lines in the engine bay for example...for both looks and practical use, same with deciding how to route and run the heater hoses, oil lines etc too)

Not a problem, will take some close ups for you.
You can get an idea in photos in page 3, but I will take some closer ones in the next day or two

Looking very nice mate.

The more of these converts on the road the better I say. What engine mounts did you use?

Cheers,

YT

Thanks, it will get there eventually.
In an earlier post in this thread I have photos. I used a standard engine mount from a V8 Torana and modified to suit

Sorry it took so long, but here is a photo of the engines pipes. You need to use these ones off an AFM motor. These are the tightest to the block. If you go any wider than these is becomes an issue with the steering column. Also I just had the rest of the exhaust made up and I wanted to make sure it all worked before claimimg that it did. :)

Its been a while, and progress is slow. My dash is now one colour, all of the glass is in except for the windscreen, and it has now been at the auto electrician for about two weeks. He expects to start the engine mid next week. As it stands all the lights and switches work, wippers and washes work and the heater fan conected. He has the guages to connect up, then its time for the engine harness to be wired in. He will rough the wires over and around the engine to strat the engine to make sure all works, then tidy it all up. Can't wait.

Here are some more picks of where its at.

Short answer, no.
Long answer;
Engine has been fired up. The car still not yet home though, it's still at the auto elec. engine sounds real strong, and has a great heartbeat. Running rough through bad tune for the cam, but has plenty potential. Should have it back mid next week all going well.
The back seat has been trimmed, fronts seats are almost complete. Once I get it back from wiring, it's straight to the trimmer for two days for hood lining install, vinyl trims, and front carpet.
The car needs one more brake line made, and the hydraulic clutch line made, then just a check over, and away we go.
Realistically I would say about 4 weeks from completion. When it gets home, I'm no different to anyone else, I live in the shed. Shouldn't take too long.

Once it's home and I'm back into it, I will continue to post progress. Stay tuned

Wheels!!!
My intention was to leave the Momo's on it. BUT, the first question everyone asks is are you changing the wheels?
So, yes I will be changing them, but to what?

Are you still planning to mount the fuel tank in the hatch area?

I think you will find that the for rego the fuel tank has to be sealed from the passenger compartment which means you can not have a fuel tank or any part of the fuel system in the hatch area. I don't think I would want the hatch area filled with a fuel tank in an accident.

You can put a fuel cell in the boot of a sedan if the boot is sealed from the passenger compartment.

now going to elimimate spare. Tank is to be made to size

I was under the impression you can have a fuel tank or cell in the rear as long as its filler is outside the car, and it's vented out side. If the filler is inside it needs a spill tray around the filler with a drip tube to the outside.
This what I understood from talking to the engineer. I have confirmed most of my ideas with him prior to starting on an area.

Now you have me thinking though, in the event of an accident a bomb behind my seat is not a great idea. May put some more thought to it in the future. For now it will stay as the fuel lines are complete along with the exhaust

Annoy ideas on wheels? Remembering it now has been set up for commodore stud pattern and offset.

I know a guy that has a fuel cell with the filler inside using a spill ring, told me to make mine fill from the outside. reckons it stinks the whole car out and the smell doesn't go away.

as for you wheels, if you like them who cares? it's your car. Simmons always look the part imo.

Mine is now set up with the filler neck outside the car in the original position. Hopefully that will keep the smell out. In an accident does concern me now though.

Simmons have always been another love of mine. The FR17 would be great. I need to be able to try them somehow first to make sure they fit. Bit too expensive to get wrong. That has been a part of why I was going to leave these for a while. Simmons are pricey$$$$$. The other reason for not using the Momo is how soft they are. My brother had a set on his VT wagon and was forever having them repaired. A descent pot hole and they go out of round. I know at least one of mine are like that now.

Spoke to the autoelec last night. Car home Saturday at this stage. Can't wait!!!!
