It's coming along. I bought new rear discs yesterday and rear pads, and had a fitting made for the clutch line. The guys at Pertek were very helpful with that, and not rediculously priced. I made up the rest of the line with some braid I had, and installed. The hard part yet to come. Getting access to the bleeder. I may cut a section of tunnel out and make up a removable cover. Can't really see any other way at this stage. Should have installed a bleed line before installing motor and box. Oh well hind sight is great.
Last of my brake lines will go in tonight and they are ready to bleed also.

Getting closer and getting excited.

I cut about an 1" hole in the floor/tunnel and used a rubber plug after I was done to bleed the clutch....well, was my original plan;  eventually though I ended up reverese bleeding it, and that method worked perfect....

Thanks Jeff , I have been thinking along the same lines. Why reverse bleed? How does that help?

Master cylinder is at the top and air is lighter than brake fluid so it goes up easier than down

Well another good night in the shed. Connected up the last brake line. Thought I would undo the brake bleeders while the calipers were off. They were jambed in good and proper, broke them on both calipers. Had to drill them out and retap them. Cleaned out the old lumpy fluid, and got them back on the car. Just need new bleeders and get them working.
Next was the clutch. Drilled a hole in the tunnel with a hole saw the same size as the rear shocker tower rubber. (stole your idea Jeff, thanks!) Added some fluid to the reservoir and slowly pumped the pedal. Took my time and did it slowly and ended up the a great pedal. It gave me no trouble at all. I must say I'm glad it's hydraulic, it would be extremely heavy otherwise.
Hopefully tomorrow night will be the same with the brakes

Will post photos tomorrow when on my computer and not iPad.

Thanks for the explanation too 76hatch

On the reverse bleeding....I believe it is how they do it on new cars basically. You insert a tube into the clutch master reservoir, and get it to seal against the bottom of it, and draw a vaccuum....after you have a good draw on it, you fill it up with fluid and pull the hose loose and it will suck fluid down into the system. I did it a couple times like that...hope that make some sense at least, lol.... and have a perfect pedal feel and no need to go through the bleeder on the throwout bearing basically.

Cool deal you got it sorted though through the hole in the floor !  (I still have the plug in mine since I was going to bleed it that way, until I went the other route)

New steering sitting on. wanted to see if I could still see the guages. It is a bit smaller that I thought it would be

Just a phot I liked for some reason of where it's sitting

The hatch area. The aluminium rails are from a VZ commodore wagon. this way i can strap anything in the back down so it doesn't fly around the car while cruising

Rails in the boot are a nice touch. !

I took my hatch over to a mate's house today to drop off some shelves I was giving him (then to lunch after that) those would have been handy...lol

(Yes, I have a crew cab Chev truck, but these fit easy in the back and a nice day for a cruise around :) )

Jeff do your wheel arches have vinyl on them, or are they just painted?

I've been trying to deside what to do to mine. Paint, vinyl or carpet/felt.

They had carpet on them...but it was the original stuff and was starting to get tatty....when I was redoing the boot area (flatted the floor, etc, etc), I pulled it out. It will get carpet again when I redo the rest of the trim.

For now, they are just painted..

More progress!!!!
I am a very happy camper tonight. I drove the car onto the trailer! Tomorrow it's going to get the hood linking and vinyls installed, and I drove it up and on to the trailer. I'm soooo happy. Still got a lot of small items to do, but it gives me motivation to keep moving.

We bleed the brakes which took a lot longer than it should have, but got a good pedal none the less. I do have a slight weep around the master that I need sort, but one step at a time.
Hopefully tomorrows up date will have interior photos attached. Fingers crossed

I know what you mean it's easy to want to give up on any long build. But boy when you get the car to first move, that alone gives you the adrenalin injection that at times looks impossible.

Well done be nice to see pic's of the interior. :spoton:

Couple steps forward and of course one back. Got my windscreen in and a few other jobs done. That's moving forward. Then broke my steering column ignition switch. Hopefully rare spares sells them or the ring around to all wreckers is in order.
It's back off Tuesday for carpet and bolt seats in.
Getting very close now
I am writing up a list of all the small jobs that are in need of completion so I don't take it out for a test drive in hast and end up doing damage.
I'm going to call my tune man tomorrow as I am about to fowl another set of plugs through running so rich. Getting very expensive at $200 a set of plugs. Cheaper ones don't seem to exist.
Has anyone tried the Bosch four prong plugs in one of these engines? Curious if they are as temperamental

There is a dude selling the plugs at $100 a set delivered. They are the ac Delco genuine iridium ones...I know the bloke. They should last 100,000km plus. If you need more, sing out and I'll get you in touch with him.

A few of my mates run your standard holden 308 plugs in their LS1's BPR6EF because its way cheaper than the iridiums especially when tuning is factored in

One runs 11.50 in a HQ
The other is turbo running in the 8's HZ

They haven't had problems yet that I know of, and I've used them in a vx I owned once.
By all means do your research but I think you'll find you will whack a set of BPR's in ;-)

Cheers

Thanks guys I will look into the options later on. And no Jeff no crack just what we pay for suff here. It can take your budget and lead you down another path. It's these incidentals that you don't factor in, well at least I don't. Between the manifold and sets of plugs alone I'm down$1000 more than expected, without the other things that creep up.
Oh well that's custom cars :)

Should check on getting things here, (unless you were in a huge rush of course) could make a fair difference over the costs of a project. :)   (even with postage/shipping/etc)

about time to update your avatar? been watching thread for a while, looking good.

please explain fouling plugs? cant you clean them?

maybe Jeff should check the price on ls1 leads and coils as well, also ridiculous. Try the difference on TPMS sensors, maybe import those as well, we are about 4-5 times more than USA.

Hi Bryan, my engine is running extremely rich, and pouring way too much fuel into the cylinders. The spark plugs are not burning all of the fuel therefore making them wet all the time, making it harder and harder to get a good spark each time. Eventually the plugs will foul or end up that wet the spark is too weak to ignite the fuel. One by one the plugs end up this way gradually loosing cylinders. Some plugs can be dried out ad put back, but you really need the engine tuned properly so it doesn't continue to happen. After a while the wont come back. The reason for this I can't tell you. This is the extent of my knowledge. I actually tried to clean my plugs up with a blow torch but that still didn't work.

Well a couple of small items done tonight, nothing too major. It's booked in for Wednesday for the trimmer now, he needed more time to finish another job, and it's booked in for tuning on the dyno on Friday.

I need to get this project as close to finished as soon as I can. My wife is eight months pregnant so need to get finished prior. Don't know what time I will have for the first few weeks once bubs is born, and I'm itching to get out and lay Rubber!!!
