^Likewise, which aspect of the turbo kit are you referring to as 'is a good idea'?

Based on the info provided I can surmise the following:

Strata 2 draw through turbo charger kits:
- Stage 1:
75-150% increase in bhp (Stock 202 80bhp)
Operate at 7, 9, 12PSI
$/bhp (max gain) = $125
Kit is based on 1x 1.75CD carbs, Garret T04, waste gate, camshaft, fuel supply kit, throttle & choke cables, decompression plate & gaskets, water injection kit, turbo lubrication kit, inlet and exhaust kits (not conplete exhaust) etc.
Kit comes pre-tuned

- Stage 2:
150-200% increase in bhp
Operate at 15PSI
$/bhp (main gain) = $80
All the above, except running 2x 1.75CD carbs, oil cooler, water-meth injection kit.

This is confusing me atm.... So its $125 for the base kit and $80 for the big one? In that case i will have three big kits....

Or are they that sure of the hp increase they charge per hp????

240 (80 x 200%) really aint to much to brag about, but if there only charging $80 for the kit im in.....

That said if there charging per hp then the big kit at 200% is gonna run you over 12k.... I would lay 10k down as a bet saying that i could make more than 240 with 12k from a 202....

Cheers.

I assume its about the pin height with the 202 pistons in a 186 Block pulling the pistons down the bore about 5mm Howard

It is a bit to brag about considering these power figures are based on standard engines Bomber.

I would just like to know what each of the kits above Mr. Vine is asking for them as a package.....not cheap I bet!!

Just worked it out mate, 12k + a bit to make 240....

Next thing is that flywheel or at the treads?

I will admit any day of the week 240 at the asphalt will make a lc/lj move, quick.

Best to ask an engine guru like Old Johnno or Struggler about the technicalities...

I cant see anyone wanting to spend $12,000 on a turbo kit for a Holden 6..............I have trouble selling the ones I do for $2,500 with everything outlined above.........Might just ring MVT next week and "enquire" myself about a costing for one of these just out of interest.

Yeah man like i said just worked it out off the figures given to my understanding.... You gotta admit its rich.

12,800 to be exact working it out off the formula provided, thats a pricey 240. Though its guaranteed on your stock 500,000km 35 year old engine apparently....

Need more info to comment really, i might call them to :-)

$12k.........my turbo 6 cost about $6k back in 1980'ish including the custom manifold for the Holley, 1.52 a/r exhaust, carrillos, roller rockers, arias forged pistons ,stud girdle etc etc and that made about 500fw hp at only16lbs boost.

Yes, but it solved the back pressure issue, engine really came alive after swapping out the standard NGM Strata Vi scroll. Before that the HP would just flatten out.

hahahaha....true that.........I have a little .83 A/R turbine on my engine at the moment, but also have a 1.06 A/R freshly built and ready to go once I get this present thing tuned and set up properly......wasnt going to run such a big A/R rear because i thought it would be too soggy, but seems it might not be such a bad idea to run it at some stage...........time will tell I guess

I was getting usable boost from 3000rpm on the 208...kicked in with serious boost from about 3800rpm probably due to the combination of the big housing and the cam.

You will be delighted to know that i have decided i now like Strata setups, for certain applications.

But I highly doubt i will ever like the original Strata 2 inlet manifold....

Considering a local lad lost half a second going from aspirated with a 4bbl holley to a strata 2 setup down the quarter, you will prolly work out why :P

Cheers.

At the fear of being flamed again, with a stock type 9 port strata 2 you will likely be making less hp than a well worked over aspirated one....

Seen it proven at the strip.....

So i would be more worried about modding the mani than turbo or cam, they come later.

Without flowing the head with the mani attatched your pissing into the wind.

Cheers.

Hey DJ,

from an untrained eye it apears as though you know alot about turbo 202's in various combinations racing at the strip?? whats your thoughts on et and mph for this im pretty sure you have a fair idea on the combo..?? :nada:  ;)

Cheers H

a friend of mine had an lc gtr a while back and he put a garret turbo kit on it it had the small inlet manifold with a 45mml weber.12 psi boost O trim rear wheel .70 exhaust housing, yella terra stage 4 high comp 9 port head wade turbo cam heavy flywheel it went hard but suffered lag,he put the twins on it and became a weapon for a street car.

Reading back over this I could have explained this a bit better, plus I've realised there was a mistake....my bad - so here goes....

Firstly they don't charge on $/bhp, I'm currently looking into a few different options and am working it down to $/bhp (gain).

That being said....

Stage 1 gives a max gain of 120bhp (150% max increase)
This equates to ~$42/bhp gain ($5000)

Stage 2 gives a max gain of 160bhp (200% max increase)
This equates to ~$40/bhp gain ($6350)

Hope this has cleared up any confusion.

Yep righto, so there guaranteeing that on a stock engine?

I admit, 240 in a LC/LJ is gonna move along nicely...And thats a reasonably cheap way of getting there.

Cheers.

Another thing to remember is the $/bhp is based purely on the kit, and doesn't take into account any other mods such as strengthened/different gearbox and yella terra Bathurst 12,000 head which are recommended for the Stage 2.
Not too mention having LSD or even possibly a stronger diff.

So if the strata 1 kit didn't have a hole for the waste gate, was the turbo internally gated???

I believe Strata 1 kit simply relied on the standard exhaust system to provide sufficient restriction/back pressure to limit the boost.

No i think it was just so restrictive the turbo couldnt actually make boost.

And no im not being a smartass, restricting the inlet and or exhaust was an old school way of limiting boost, Its still even done nowdays in WRC and the like.

EDIT, Howard beat me.

Cheers.
