I have always wanted to put two red sixes together too create a Red  V12,

it would be called a XU4 as a XU1 is a 6 cylinder and a XU2 is an 8 and a XU3 would be a 10 so a XU4 would be a 12 Cylinder.

Just to blow your lil theory, the XU-8 is a 8 Cylinder.

An all Alloy 404ci V12 would be nice, might have to drag those engine plans I had for a minature v12 out of the cupboard and have a look at them. and have a talk to an old fella that made sand cast molds for a living

I really like that dragster with the twin 6's

heres a link for the GMC v12, Elvis from Rod Bods put one in a 32 ford and apparently the MAD MAX film people got him to build 4-5 more of them for the movie.

Doesn't Holden own Jag this week? Or was that last week?
Or Did they sell it to Ford to pay off the BMW debt?
I can't remember?

Sweet. If there's anything nicer than the sound of 12 screaming cylinders it's 12 screaming two-stroke cylinders...

How about a flat 12 ,glue two 202 blocks together at the base ,blocks are machined with half the main bearing each ,crankshaft gear will drive both cam gears . Start thinking boys !!!!!

That would be the Biggest Flat 12 Mick and the room to put it in,

I suppose we could take 2 inches out of the stroke on both sides (which would make it 700mm from tappet cover to tappet cover), dry sump and compensate with high d.c.and 13,000rpm. Dave I

p.s. it would fit in the WB tonner

p.p.s. that would make it a 12 cylinder 208ci bored out 60 having half the stroke taken

I love it already ,You know we could keep the stroke by using a piston with the pin up in the ring pack and a shorter rod ,that would make a 416ci flat six .imagine that with 6 x IDA Webers and some cool pipes .

I think super glue would do the job! Didn't they lift an elephant or a bulldozer years ago with just one drop? :dontknow:

And................Could you grind half the rod away and mount 2 rods on the same journal?

Old Johnno might want to get involved with his double over head bumpstick F@4D head conversion if we're lucky?

The NEW Repco/Brabham? :buttrock:

All we need is a chassis/platform?

SUBARU!!!!!! I'm sure Niterider could get involved here!

THIS could pull the Awstraylyn auto industry back on it's feet! :3gears:

The trouble with superglue is that it makes any future rebuilds difficult. I'd much prefer velcro. Or fridge magnets. So long as I'm not the poor bastard that has to do up the second set of big-end bolts.

Great Man Old Johnno saves the day again,

If Velcro can hold the Blocks together, than Velcro can do the Big Ends as well.

That is why we have a 'Vee'. Dave I

Yep if we put about 6 x 3/8" dowells in the sump rail, velcro as a gasket and three big ass ratchet straps around the whole thing .Johhno I'm sure we can find a way to assemble all the rods to the crank and slide the second block over the pistons before ratchet strapping the whole lot down .I think we're on to something boys with a bit more input and lots of beers we can take this to indy .

Anyone remember those weird Rover engines (K something I think) that had the head attached with through bolts that screwed into the main caps? Something similar could be used if the Velcro doesn't work out - but that's extremely unlikely of course.

One other minor detail to ponder would be the crank. Horizontally opposed engines normally have the opposing crankpins 180apart and are very well balanced. With two rods and pistons on each pin our 404 will almost certainly shake itself into orbit the first time the throttle is blipped. We're gonna need counterweights as heavy as anvils (or anvils for counterweights, now there's an idea...) if it's not to look like a big red blur when it's running...

Without measuring up it looks like some main cap bolts line up with head bolts ,long studs could replace the ratchet straps (,only for aesthetic reasons). We can use the straps to stop it jumping out of the car .The vibration problem will be huge but we can fix that with external counterweights on the flywheel and balancer.Falcon heads would be the go so the exhausts exit underneath .

Their won't be a vibration problem, I just had a brain fart.....

I kinda like the idea of the ratchet straps, it'd certainly make the teardowns quicker.
