It's gotta be right Mike. You've become the benchmark on how to fix rust. You don't get many replies of encouragement but so many use your threads for help. Well done. Marty

Hi Marty... Ta for the kind words... I do know people watch by the number of views I get...

Glad to help.. I post to show how its done and also to show that I have nothing to hide when fixing cars..

And giving the owner a DVD with all the repairs done as I go is a bonus for them and the car...

I wounder if when people pay for their repairs, do they get a DVD with how the work was done??????????...

.

A short vid of the gaps to date.. The guard gaps will be so accurate when I weld the guards on, going for paddle pop all the way around.. ALL the gaps....

I will do the front door gaps once set in place.

All told.. Looking good.

The owner dropped by today... Hes happy... :)

This car will be as good as new when you've finished with it.

Love your work Mike and really appreciate you documenting it so well.

The pictures of "what's inside" various parts will be invaluable when I get to start on some rust repairs.

Cheers!

Hi all...

I took off the RH and LH outer door sills... The RH side is ok.. has some smallish rust holes, easy fix.. The LH side is a mess and will need some work.. The rear sills are ok, the door to rear guard lip is fine in both sides... I dry fitted the RH outer sill... Gaps are good.... Ill do the LH side tomm..

I also got the RH windowl cowl end to door gap set as I want.. Nice and even.. Matches door from front/back view.. I will get perfect when guard is welded on.

I found some more dodgy repairs under some bog on the rear quarter to door.. Ill fix...

Hi all..

I made a patch for the LH inner door sill.... I cut out ALL the dodgy crap and started again....

Worked well.... Ill plug weld to the floor tomm and finnish the sill patch and grind away the excess welds....

Way better than what was there..

Hi all....

I finally have finnished the door sills, sill ends, inner seal, etc.... All gaps are good and doors close ok..

I sandblasted the repaired areas.. Ill POR 15 today... Then reassemble the front..... Nearly done....

I had to lift up the LH door sill lip to match the door gap/door sill outer.... was fiddley but had to be done... Door gaps on sills are paddle pop thickness... Love the paddle pops :)

Just the chassis rails which I will talk to the customer about as The hours have built up... 239 so far.... Lots of work on this baby...

Mike

Hi all....

I was all ready to POR 15... After I sandblasted there were MORE bloody rust holes... In the LH Kicker panel... Made a patch, cut out and fixed... I also attached the filler peices for the window cowl.

POR 15 the bits he wont be able to get to.. When dry/hard in a few days, Ill then start to reasemble..

Hoping the car wont rust again.... Should be better at keeping moister away now....

My eye for detail is the bane of my existance.. Im too thorough for my own good....

I do ALL cars like they are mine... The only way me thinks..

The owner rang...Hes happy, eeven with me stating that It will cost a little more than first quoated... Unforseen nasties..

Any way... Im going to try and find some good chassis rails  for the replacing of the old, rusty, dangerouse, defectable, shitty bog job ones....

Hi all..

Got both outer door sills on today.. Seam sealed all the areas that need doing and used plenty when putting on the sills...

Paddle pop stick (2mm) gaps both sides.. Nice and straight.

Its nice to see the sill bottom rails are nice and straight as well.. Not ALL banged up as they were.

Ill clean up later.. I primed just in case as I wont touch for a bit.

Ill finnish the sill ends when matching the guards..

I also scabbed some front chassis rails for the car.. Ill put them on after Ive finnished all the front.. Poared some degreeser in there to get the muck away.

Have a good weekend all.. Looks like the weather here is going to be nice.. About time :)

Hi all...

Ive spent the last couple of days getting the replacement chassis rails together.

I had to fix a rust hole... Sandblasted, POR 15 and ready to go on....

I tried to replicate the original washers.. They are a tad too big . wont matter when on..

I had to raise the car so I can get underneath comfortably... Very safe and secure :).

I welded in some bracing from an old cross member to the radiator support and inner rails.. She wont move...

Prick of a job unpicking the old rails.... Going to be fun welding upside down...

They should be on today..

I manged to weld on the window cowl, adjust bonnet gap and test fitted the guards again.. Alls good..

Im wanting this car done and gone in 2 weeks...

Mike

and the dog and her ball.... Very patient waiting for me to "play"...

Hi all...

i spent the day getting the LH chassis rail on... Did the usual, sanblasted, patched rust holes, POR 15.... Ill fill the inside with fish oil/cavity wax.

It wont rust again :)..

Anyway I welded the new bit on... Took heaps of measurements and made sure it was correct.. Turned out very well.... Great penetration, making sure to stagger the welds for extra strenght, and heavy welding to get penetration on rails....

Was a bit fiddley to get right... Will clean up later.

Way better than what came off...

Tomm the RH side....

Mike

more pics..seems the phone pics are bigger.. Ill fix next time.

Forgot to write... Found some more dodgy work.. Where they joined the floor.. Its a mess and they ground the metal way too thin. They even put heaps of bog here to hide the messy , shitty job.... Ill cut out and replace..
