hey guys, i have been looking at rims for my uc hatchback. it has commodore stud pattern on it and i cant seem to find any rims under 16 inch that i like, but there are alot of hotwire and dragways that i love but with my stud pattern wont fit!?.

QUESTION: how big of a job is changing stud pattern back to original? thanks guys

Depends how it was changed in the first place? A good pair of 2nd hand front hubs are easy to swap over, and if the axles were redrilled they might still have the original holes. If not a pair of UC axles wouldn't be hard to find (assuming you have the stock diff).

You would need to replace the rear axles and brake rotors (drums?), as well as the front hubs (and possibly calipers depending on how the conversion was done in the first place)?

Alternately you could just remove all of the above, take them to a machine shop, preferably one that specializes in driveline stuff, and get them to plug-weld the Commodore stud holes and redrill to the pattern you want, which I'm guessing would be either Torana or HQ stud pattern?

I believe it's illegal to have multi-drilled stud patterns although I'd have to read up on that again to confirm?

Your third option would be to find another Torana owner who wants to swap with you, but having a 9" diff complicates things, you'd have to find someone with the same length and spline-count axles with the same size bearings, or just swap complete diffs over?

Cheers Andrew, I forgot about the drums. I dont think you are allowed to have multi drilled hubs either, but that doesn't mean there aren't any out there!

Seeing as you're in the Gong, my first port of call would be Daniel Engineering in Belmore Street, they've been doing stuff like this ever since I can remember (which is longer than I care to admit)...

Another one for Daniel Engineering.

Used them many times myself.

And every Truck owner I have known has used only them as well.

Call with all the info you have and get a quote.

That's the only way to find out.

I would go hq pattern.

^ what he said. Go HQ pattern(same as Chev), offsets are more suited to torana and more options of rims.

I still reckon Ford stud pattern is possibly the best option. The Ford spigot is same size as HQ, HQ discs drilled to Ford pattern are readily available and there are many offsets available similar to Torana as so many cars use this pattern. The PCD is also smaller than HQ so easer to redrill Torana axles.

Plus second hand mags in this stud pattern are plentiful and very cheap.

Alternatively, keep the Commodore pattern and look at Beemer wheels. I think a few other Euro manufacturers use this pattern too.

Never knew about the Ford PDC being smaller making Torana axles better for redrilling.

Was thinking of getting the axle drill to HQ but they are close to the edge.

Thanks

Ian
