Oil pump gears?

That would be a helluva trip to get from the pump housing to the sump ...

Are they needle bearing bits on the plug ?

Aren't many places they can come from.

The motor or the thread?? :)

LOL

Rome wasn't built overnight.
This motor apparently didn't munch away at itself to the point of throwing a leg out of bed in a hurry, either.

Well the autopsy has got a bit further along.

At first glance I still couldn’t see a problem but as some of you will know, the passenger side cam lobes are partly obscured in a BBC.

So I removed the rocker gear to pull the lifters and cylinder 7 is the problem. Couldn’t pull the lifter pair and looking with a mirror showed the roller tip was no more.

Kinda hard to see but interestingly the pin holding the roller is still there so the roller itself has disintegrated. Oddly the cam lobe looks good but only a little bit is visible. No doubt it will look worse in the full light of day.

The big bit seems the right curvature. Presumably the rest is still hidden in the sump.

Although I could probably fix the broken bits and go again the motor is nearly ten years old and probably deserves a proper once over so I’m going to pull it and send it to the experts. Despite its issues it’s been a fun thing to drive.

Should have a bit of time to get most of it done given we are yet again locked down thanks to Chairman Dans inability to run a chook raffle, let alone a quarantine system. If only he hadn’t crowed about Victoria’s system being the best in the universe a mere week ago....

Is this an opportunity to make even more power for the uterus?

Jealous! I have a GenV 454HO and a MarkIV 427 here, yet to find a car to put either in. Hope yours doesn’t have too much damage other than the cam/lifters.

I’d cut Dan some minor slack, all of the State Premiers must be under massive pressure. Not a job I’d take on for twice their salary!

The big block was put in and engineered 25 years ago, back when it was easily approved.

Dan is a genuine never had a real job goose. We would happily swap for Gladys!

I have a GTS327 to put the 427 in, but life gets in the way.

No deal, You can keep him. But I still wouldn’t want his job no matter the $ paid.

I wish! One of these days I will get around to having a blown big block car.

Years ago there was a guy who built a few rootes supercharged cars with everything under a stock bonnet. I think he had an XW or XY in Street Machine?

Post mortem.

Not too bad!

Heads, crank, rods and pistons all OK. The only issue is that it looks like the yokels that built it were a bit “how ya goin” with the cylinder prep so it needs a minor rebore/hone to get everything perfectly round AND they used the biggest off the shelf piston they could find.

So I’m gonna have to wait for custom pistons and rings from the mighty US of A.

Oh well!

I had a lifter retainer break on the dyno on mine a few months back, just wrecked a roller lifter and cam only. Problem with roller lifters is the don't like idle, need the extreme style with the oil pressure hole to the the roller to keep them alive.

Ran across a couple of legends in my travels today - George and Ray Haddad.

True gentlemen and legends of the scene. Watching their orange HQ with the blown 355 plastic going hard in the street drags at the Easternats was a delight. It was always full of passengers and today I asked George why? The need for traction was more important than the weight cost of the passengers. It was one fast Lebbo express!

Who says you can’t have a 9 second street car?

Very cool car...didn't driveline end up in a customer's vl brock grp 3/signature?

I kind of liked vn commo they did before that but moreso the lc coupe buildup they did that was covered by streetcar mag

George told me he took one very keen prospective buyer for a drive and when he gave Ir a bit of a squirt the passenger reached hard for the non existent Jesus bar.

George told him it wasn’t the car for him and declined to sell it to him.

He did say that when it was sold it had a tamer holden in it that was “blower ready” when the new owner was ready. He hasn’t come back for the blower yet!

I have never seen a car that size with only 800 hp move that fast off the line on a street surface.

Tuning, tyres & suspension have come a long way since then...same driveline/car with tp block they'd have it in the 8's & drag challenge friendly

Loved seeing ol' kingies lift 1 wheel in air other wheel still on ground twisting like crazy as a kid.

Could have been worse selling the car to someone who wasn't afraid of it....

George did say that if he was going to chase more power then he would have built a chev. Didnt say what configuration though.

He was certainly making plenty of power for Craig Gerdes who was running a Haddad built blown 572 BBC at the time.

The orange Monaro was very street friendly. Driven during the week with the cage bolted in on Friday before it was driven out to Calder for some racing.

Thanks Laurie, I thought it was a coupe. Just questioned my eyesight when it was suggested it was a "Kinga" above so must have been a sedan.
