These Hurricane extractors did me well:-

I think so, there probably the best off the shelf pipes and to get them to work is a lot quicker than making a set.

Its 3pm now, I started at 10am, and pretty well have them finished, just need to make a bit to join onto my existing eshaust system, which is a given.

That time includes a fair bit of procastinating about how to tackle stuff, but yeah, took about 30 heat shrinks to get the flange acceptable, and had to cut the last collector off and reposition it, which wasnt as hard as I expected, and I dented one of the secondary's in a bit to clear the x member instead of cutting into the outrigger.

Cheers.

Fair call, good starting point. Looks like i will be in for some fun especially to get them past bigger sump aswell. Are you using 12 point nuts or anything special to help bolt them up?

I'm running a winged sump, plenty of clearance there.

I havnt actually got them fitting with the studs in yet, just a couple of bolts, that's a future issue.

Will be running 12pt nuts yes.

Headers are on the way, bit quicker than they orig said.

Probably going to run a magnaflow muffler, 2.5" inlet and twin 2" outlet, trying to make it look as much like an xu1 style as possible but flow and sound nice.

Should i run a resonator or no resonator? I want it to sound cranky.

I would recommend you put one in. I run a Hooker muffler 2.5 in and out. I put a small resi in before the muffler. Still sounds angry at idle and at full noise sounds great. The resi will take the "bark" and the "yuck" out of it and wont compromise performance.

I ran no resonator at 1st with mine years ago.
But quickly found it was a c#*t to drive. At 60kmh it would just be that perfect pitch/frequency that the cabin droned like a b*tch and something in the dash would vibrate after awhile and it would get a very high pitch hum. Extremely anouying. (Never found the offending vibration bit)

Threw a resonator in and presto the car became a joy to drive. Sounded tough still and yet wasn't anouying.

B4 resi i hardly drove ot due to the noise and headaches. After the resi i cruised the f*ck out of it.

I have no resonator in mine. Exhaust is finished at the diff. Yes it is loud, yes it is cranky, yes is drones at 60kmh, but in all honesty it doesnt bother me that much. I only drive it on sunny sundays. In honesty I worry more about annoying neighbours than for myself.

I run a magnaflow round resonator at the rear and a single 12" hotdog resonator in the middle. 2.5"

It's loud, but never drones and under 3k rpm, pretty legal sounding

Agree with the drone factor too. Had no resi on my last set up and it was horrid......

And i suppose with your concrete filled ears you drove yours once in a blue moon? Mine was daily driven 40km round trip every day.
so the resonator was definitely needed for the droning.
as for loud, yeah definitely was still loud.

No rear resonator if want angry cranky sound...can always add resonator way wayyy later if missus wont ride in car haha

Drove mine as daily for 6 months solid cam/triple webbers...neighbours hated it with a passion 6am startups.

Only current 355 vh commodore had to put resonator on it as was sickening loud needed earplugs to drive it more than few kilometres

Jason, if you had any idea what you were talking about you would be dangerous. I couldnt give a flying f_ck how loud it is. In my personal opinion, without a resonator fitted the exhaust note on my car and my set up was not enjoyable and did not sound right. You've once again missed the point entirely......

Wow. No wonder you get given a hard time on this forum. I've seen top fuel and yes your pretty good at stating the obvious, they are indeed too loud. You must be one of the less gifted individuals who choose not to block their ears as they pass. Over time they have not only damaged your hearing but your clearly already impaired mental capacity also.

Yep, the little bit I know from the helpful guy's here on GMH-TORANA.

Top Fuel little sixes have straight out pipes (tube's), the same reason as the big engine's do. :)

The common thing that all engine's have, is they are made from mild steel,

and the first pipe coming off the head exhaust port called the primary,

has a pipe length important for the sonic waves produced from the combustion chamber.

It is now known from exhaust manifold programs like Pipe Max etc (some better than others),

that the little six needs between 28 inch to 31 inch long primary tube,

and being between 1 1/2 inch to 1 5/8 inch diametre tube depending on your RPM range.

So in a nut shell, those are the ingredients that manufacturer's use,

which the simple extractor's are just made to fit under the bonnet,

which created uneven length pipes called interference extractors.

Tuned extractors on the other hand have all the tubes,

(primaries, secondaries and collectors) roughly the same length which perform better.

The manufactured tuned extractor's are not perfect but are better than the interference one's,

and their size take up more room, go further past the engine bay, create more heat,

more noise, more speed and power.

This is where program's like Pipe Max,

can help you make a custom set to suit your engine's capacity,

and deal with getting around other items in the engine bay. :)

If I got something wrong, Pipe Up. :)

Well there is more Gene,

it is also said that for better extractor design,

the first 2 inches of the primary tubes should be straight before any bend,

and this would mean the triple's manifold would be needed,

but this is for top notch performance engines.

The other concideration is ceramic coatings,

fiberglass wrapping for quietness (causes rust),

and having extractors made from stainless steel.

Oldjohnno has also taught us about a sonic wave void area,

which would be used at the end of the collectors,

 before the exhaust pipe start,

but that is another topic altogether. :)
