Personally & I will "stress" this is personal, I'm not interested in welding gaps to make a torana like a vf. The gaps weren't that bad really & in the factory, you just adjust things as best as possible. That is certainly what i would do. I have seen 2 pack job's that some people assumed was acrylic. But I've also seen acrylic appear like 2 pack. The durability ect for me is the winner with 2 pack. If acrylic was so great then Porsche, Ferrari, Volvo ect would use it, or option it. The really good quality restorations don't need to be advertised, as people in the loop know the car's. So there's no proper comparison. & half of the American crap is staged ect. Anyway, not up to me, good luck.

In another life I used to hang out with folk who were into very correct English cars, mostly Rovers and Jags. The judging used to penalise cars that were “over restored”.

I would have expected a recreation of original fitment and orange peel in acrylic on an XU-1 would be viewed as most correct? Would fit in nicely with the “recreated” engine paint overspray on the bellhousing?

A question born of musing.

Two parts. Both assume original paint job has been redone.

1. Is an XU1 worth more on the market with a 2 pack perfect flat panel job, perfect gaps etc or is it worth more with a “ex factory” style repaint in acrylic?

2. A question for any judges on here. Which of the above two scenarios will score the most points at concors?

Yours in idle curiosity. Well sort of. I might be travelling this path somewhere in the near ish future.

What about a factory looking style paint job in 2 pack, with factory looking gaps then. Not that I'm really concerned, but that's how mine will be finished. I'd be more concerned about the judging, not so much the value apart from in regards to insurance.

I will agree that 2 pack is a far superior coating to Acrylic, there is no debate there. To be perfectly honest, the prices these cars are asking these days, the bloody paint type (2 pack or acrylic) probably doesn't matter.I  think folks these days would just be happy they have an honest car that's all matching because that's whats truly important.

Never having painted a car before and doing it in the shed, I went acrylic on advice of my paint guru. I’ve painted a lot of the smaller items in urethane successfully and would be confident in using it next time.

Some say they prefer the look of acrylic on a resto, looking original. Although on a street rod type build I do like the tuppaware look.

Sorry, i was just elaborating on Rexy's question, regarding what the concours judges might say about my planned build finishes in regards to the points system. I don't ever intend to sell, so apart from for insurance purposes, car value is of no concern to me.
