Painted wheel looks lots better, I still think that those later model wheels look funny, I like a nice plain round wheel, no hand grips and stuff, they just look better to me.

They have that effect on you Heath.
Car looks great, love the door trims and seats - if only the seats were green or the paint was blue....

After i finished making my shift knob i had a bit more material and time so i made a few horn button centres to suit an autotecnica (generic?) horn button, and I think it's a lot neater than the plastic sticker things that they come with. If anyone wants one, I have some spare, gimme a yell
Knob:

New shifter and temporary boot setup to suit smaller diameter lol

In the car with the horn thingo pressed in

Obviously it's a lot shorter (angular throw is the same but i found out that it wouldn't be particularly hard to make a real short throw shifter if you felt that way inclined; I have no need for that), it gives more feedback now without the dampened connection, the reduced weight of the new knob and shaft means it isn't trying to wear itself apart every time a force is applied (such as steering, accelleration, braking), and it looks exactly how I wanted it to look, even if it isn't to everyone's taste
But I'm gonna need to pull it down again and heat up the bend, reshaping it to fit in the console hole better (wish I knew that, because i already used an oxy to soften the hard surface last week; D'oh!). And then I need to get a proper console boot and then probably make up a new collet to suit the smaller shifter diameter too haha
It's amazing how even the most simple machining tasks can be so satisfying when they have a real application lol.

Any ideas for the look of the boot yet?

Having said that, I sit reasonably close to the firewall, and sit very upright; not like a fooli sick Commodore driver. So for me, it's spot-on.
EDIT: Matt, the boot will be kinda dominated by the gas tank lol. It will be trimmed on either side for aesthetics and practicality, and maybe on the floor too, not sure yet, I'll replace the factory light setup with a cleaner (white or blue) LED or cold cathode tube or two probably. I don't know if I'll hide the gas tank or not. Let me know if you want one of the alloy horn buttons I made.

I could polish it up to match the chrome centre on my steering wheel too.
whats it worth?
Sounds good with the shifter, I sit pretty close to the wheel too, but I have longer legs and a stubby little mid section and shortish arms, makes it harder to get a decent steering position without bumping knees on the dash/column!

I meant the gear shifter "boot" LOL
Yeah, i wouldn't mind one of the alloy horn buttons.
Better than this!!

Re: the boot, my bad lol. Umm I thought i told ya last time I saw you that I was going to get one of those Rares console insert things, with the console lid, vinyl boot and surround that matches. Should look neat

The shifter does look quite short but that said, the old one was rather long (and at least this one is functional).
