I wonder if there's some carry over from LH to early LX. Mines a 4/76. I'm not sure what date the carry over stops.

Production started in December '75 with the release date being Feb '76 and cars were on the showroom floor by the 4th of March. LH parts would have still been in use for at least a couple of months. (dates from Dr Terry's book.)

Thanks for all the reference photos, Laurie. Great info there.

Here is a close-shot of mine before resto. I couldn't work out if it was grey with spots of rust or ochre colour.

Very good point about the different hinge colours and the bonnet weights, maybe you've cracked the code, Andrew.

Cheers,

Liz :)

Yep, me too. They were painted ochre, then I told resto guy they should be grey, then I second-guessed myself and now they are ochre... poor resto guy will feel like shooting me soon ;)

Cheers,

Liz :)

Is Fergie Grey slang for grey motor colour?

Most of the November builds were body colour springs.

Nov 75 or 76?

I'm just going to redo the springs the colour that they were before resto and take it for granted that they were original seeing as it's quite a complete low Ks car.

I could drive myself insane trying to make everything perfect OR I could just have it finished and drive the car instead :)

Cheers,

Liz :)

From what I found with my 10/75 LH, the bonnet springs were grey.

Good on ya Liz. You can always change minor things like that later if it really starts to bother you.

Thanks Pete, yeah a couple of little things that I'll have to live with until I can find what I need.

I didn't realise how hard it would be to find correct sun visors for example so will have to put up with the wrong coloured ones for now, repro vinyl on tops of door trims as well...

All the little things at the end of the project that I never thought about. Looks like she'll be a January rego.

Cheers,

Liz :)

Hi Liz. Regarding the RMS, I was advised by them that I am allowed to drive without a permit to blueslip workshop and home. This advice was then tested every time I took the car out to get work done in preparation for the blueslip as the boys in blue couldn't resist stopping me for a quick chat. They let me go everytime. I just showed them the list of stuff my mechanic and engineer made and that was usually enough evidence. A couple of times they actually called the workshop who confirmed I was booked in that day, but that was a rare ocurrence.

I have a question regarding the pics you posted of masking prep for spray painting. How on earth did they tape up all the door and window openings from the inside, then still manage to get out and paint the car? Or did they leave the poor work experience kid inside to wait it out 🤣

Well, that is interesting. I downloaded two forms from RMS in regards to driving unrego and was going to go in and ask about getting numberplate before Blue slip as I have them on hold.

I figure the old V8 muscle might be cop bait especially without plates so thought I should get it above board.

I'll see how it goes but good to know, Pete.

Cheers,

Liz :)

You tape up the edges first, reaching in through the centre, then seal up the middle last.

Hi Liz, did you do the black on the nose cone to the edge of the smile? I am sure that is how it should be. What color roof lining did your car have? Cheers Aaron.

Hi Aaron,

Not sure of the exact boundary for the black to the "smile" and can't tell from my pics either. I know roughly where you mean but not the exact point, maybe you have a reference photo you could share? The engine bay colour has just been repeated as it was before resto, assuming that it was original.

Interesting that you mention the roof lining as another forum member went to workshop and seeing my car pointed out that my sun visors are the wrong colour. My roof lining is Tan but I am having trouble matching the vinyl as the standard colours are not dark enough in the available report material. Makes me wonder if I have the original lining or not. Low Ks car though so I'd be surprised if it's a replacement.

Here's a pic of the roof lining. If you use the seat vinyl as a reference you can get an idea of the colour.
