Hi Liz, did you do the black on the nose cone to the edge of the smile? I am sure that is how it should be. What color roof lining did your car have? Cheers Aaron.

Does this pic show the nose cone "smile" enough to show it's pre resto colour.

I believe Aaron is referring to the forward-facing grille opening below the bumper?

Lower luxury levels had a stainless strip around the "smile" continuing the strip around the grille all the way around to the other side, but SLR & SS didn't get this trim.

Thanks for helping me out with the terminology, Andrew.

I don't have a resto pic a view of the grill but this is a before pic, which would've been used as a reference photo by the workshop.

This might be clearer as a before pic.

Grill should look the same after resto.

Cheers,

Liz :)

It doesn't look like yours had the black part (that I think) Aaron is talking about, your nosecone is all body colour.

I can't say I've really taken notice before but looking though my photo collection just makes it more confusing, some seem to have it, and some don't...

Same with my pics Andrew. Probably 50% each way. However this one is unrestored.

Hmm...maybe it just depended which way the wind was blowing at the time the car was being painted at GMH. If they had standardised production things would be easier now although maybe we wouldn't have as much to talk about ;)

In this and a couple of other areas my car has simply been taken as being an original unrestored example and so paint lines and engine bay colour has been done the same as it was before resto. Hope that it's correct and can't bloody wait to drive it :)

Thanks for the pics, guys! I enjoyed them all the same.

Cheers,

Liz :)

I think that's all you can do, I mean even if you've owned the car since new, there's no telling what the dealer got up to before you took delivery?

It was pretty common to see "dealer specials" back then, changing everything from wheels and/or hubcaps, to adding pinstripes and louvres, or swapping-out stereos, and even stuff like fitting air conditioners and turbos... makes it bloody hard to say what was "factory" and what wasn't!

Hi Liz, does your panel beater think that maybe it had a nose cone re-spray? Did it have many stone chips? The car looks incredibleby by the way. Maybe you can get some different color sun visors and get them color matched. What color visors did you have? My 2/76 Papaya L20 M20 SS had slate trim with neutral roof lining and visors. Bigfella you are spot on that is what I ment, cheers Aaron.

Thanks Aaron,

Looked awesome when I had a quick look last week :)

He didn't mention the nose cone colour at all and I think he would've said if he found a different colour underneath anywhere.

Visors are quite a bit lighter in colour. Here's a pic showing light visor against darker headlining.

95448574f94862c5bebe0f92c15673b1.jpg

I got a few samples from a place that recovers them but none of the colours were as dark as the headlining. I am assuming that they should be the same. Could I be wrong?

Cheers,

Liz :)

Hi Liz,

Have you tried Winner Products for the visors? They are currently doing a full interior kit for me, including headlining and visors in the "Tan Ribbed" material. Looks the same as your headlining.

Cheers

Those visors in your car are from a UC or mabey very late LX, they are neutral in color. The LX ones go sticky and floppy. Your ones should be the same as the roof lining in color and texture, I will check where I got mine from as mine are the right texture and are the color you have at the moment so mabey the make brown ones or could color match neutral ones to you color, cheers Aaron

Getting back to the black on the nosecone for a minute, it looks like it should be there according to the Holden instructional drawings. LX is first, and I included the LH one as it looks a bit clearer. (Section L-L on LX and Section E-E on LH)

How are the Concours d' Elegance judges going to see the body coloured overspray on the bottom of the floor Brad?

Thank you, Tony. They look to be on the money. I forgot about Winners for some reason. Problem solved I think.

Thanks Aaron, yes you are right. They do seem to be UC visors, how did I miss that?! Funny how little details get bypassed. I appreciate your offer of help but it looks like Tony has found a supplier in Winners and I have just bought them.

Just one more thing to get, vinyl for the top of the doors. That will be my last minute running around next week I reckon. It's funny how everything was going along quite smoothly then BAM! last minute mass eBay purchases and last minute panic...need a holiday :)

Cheers,

Liz :)

Nice find Laurie, so looks like it was only on cars fitted with a front air dam at the factory??

Just goes to show how many cars have been incorrectly painted then!

Well yes, it does look like it's meant to be there. Hmm..maybe my car is not so original? Oh well, pretty sure it won't effect how quick it goes ;)

Thanks for the good info Laurie.

Hi Nicho,

What a shame you can't see pics. I know some other members are having similar issues on here but I think the IT guy is still looking into it.

I'll post a couple of pics in Torana Whisper on Fb and you can have a look there if you're keen. My name is the same on Fb...because it is my name :)

Cheers,

Liz :)

I have a stupid question to ask here so I apologise in advance. Is there an air dam on my car?

Sorry Liz, yes "Air Dam" is just the old skool name for a front spoiler.

It's interesting, I would've thought that "spoiling" and/or "damming" the air flow would be a bad thing? :P

Laurie, for some reason I can't find that picture you posted in my LX parts catalog?

But on a similar topic, I thought "VD" models (SL/R & SS) didn't get that chrome trim around the "smile", but the cattledog says they did...

I was thinking exactly the same as I read all this, no question of engine bay or rad support panel etc, everything is just black
