Outstanding Liz hard work is paying off

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, sure is. Resto guy is working 7 days a week on this and a highly modified HQ coupe as well as a few smaller projects. Don't know where he gets time to sleep.

How's yours going Danny? Mine should be ready by Christmas!

Xmas present to myself. YaY!!

Cheers,

Liz :)

Looks pretty good, even if I do say so myself. Can't wait to have the first drive, hopefully ready in time for Xmas.

Yeah, thanks Chris, nice set of wheels you have going on yours by the way :)

I'm getting pretty damn excited but also a little bit impatient now as well. The XU1 is getting a few little things done to it too, so I'm currently without Toranas.

Christmas can't get here fast enough this year.

Cheers,

Liz :)

Yeah we had the big cruise over here at the end of OCT. So was determined to get it on the road by then.

Few mates from the Torana Club came to the rescue - blood, sweat, quite a few tears - you know how it goes.

Actually got it driveable at 9.30pm the night before the big cruise. Still a lot of things to tidy up but as you can see - it moves under its own steam.

Things like putting in kick panels, getting door locks to actually work and a set of working headlights are minor and can wait :)

But yes the feeling when you drive down the road is just one in a million - so believe me - it will be worth it !!!!!!!!!!

Its just a shame that you live on the wrong side of the country - a side by side photo would be epic.

Hahaha..."live on the wrong side of the country" ;)

Yeah, I've always wanted to drive across the Nullabor but maybe not in the freshly painted hatch.

I'd think that working locks would be first on the list and headlights could come in handy too, although I don't have any in the XU1 at the moment.

Hope to see some more pics at some stage.

Cheers,

Liz :)

So...a few more pics.

Attached File  75_painted rear end & rear quarter IMG_3215 copy.jpg   247.27K   12 downloads

Attached File  77_ O:S painted IMG_3217 copy.jpg   256.9K   12 downloads

It's interesting how different the paint colour can look depending on the lighting. I was a bit worried when these pics came through as I thought the paint mix was wrong. A quick trip down to the workshop put my mind at rest as it was as good as gold, or Papaya actually ;)

Cheers,

Liz :)

...and a few more :)

Wiper motor will be cleaned up a bit more and still waiting for the master cylinder to arrive after the longest partial reco I've experienced. I'm going to age the MC lid a bit as I think the super shiny lid is a bit overkill.

Attached File  79_ Engine Bay & front O:S inner guard IMG_3219 copy.jpg   218.93K   13 downloads

Bonnet hinge springs will be painted grey as I think that's what they were before resto and I'm also not a fan of the Ochre colour.

Attached File  81_Quick pic during recent trip to workshop for parts delivery IMG_5565 copy.jpg   184.58K   13 downloads

It's getting close now.

I was hoping this would be ready for Xmas but it's looking unlikely now. Filling out the numerous RMS paperwork required to drive it to the blue slip workshop and then home.

Might be a New Years present to myself.

Cheers,

Liz :)

I had a bit of a search through the Forum and couldn't find a definitive answer on what the colour should be. Hard to know what to do really. Think they've been redone by now...Hmm confusing.

Thanks for the tip, Gene. Got to the resto guy before he changed them so they'll stay ochre for now.

LH= Ochre, LX= Grey Liz.

I wonder if there's some carry over from LH to early LX. Mines a 4/76. I'm not sure what date the carry over stops. I did read another thread where this was discussed but can't remember exactly which topic it is.

Cheers,

Liz :)

I would say if yours were grey to start with, then thats what colour they should be. LH are definitely all Ochre. LX could have some early builds with Ochre, but they also came in Fergie Grey, or painted body colour.

UC has painted hinges, so I am thinking the painted ones were brought online later in the production period.

I wonder if there's some carry over from LH to early LX. ~

Absolutely, quite a lot of changes didn't make it into the LX model until well after its release, even more so with the sedans where LH parts and even body shells were "used-up". I personally reckon that the black engine bays were an LH thing that took several months to migrate to the coloured LX style.

Like many other things, I'd venture a guess that the colour of the springs is intended to identify which springs go with what bonnet, as the earlier "double-skinned" bonnets were quite a bit heavier than the newer LX version.

But the Leo Pruneo A9X was built very late in the run and has the grey springs. I'm just waiting on a build date for Andys new one. All A9Xs were built after August '77 anyway.
