The front end ball joints bushes and tie rod ends I got from a few places like Rare Spares, the hardest part was getting all rubber components they seem to be getting harder to get as I didn't want to put Nolathane parts in the car I wanted it all rubber as they came out original, the other place you can try is Sprint Auto Parts and Motor Traders and I found the best store for info was at Kilburn.
I used POR15 on all my front end parts but its just under $100 per litre so its not the cheapest paint to use but if you can it is worth it, but just go for the main coat and don't worry about the clear coat, altho I apparently got a bit of a dud can of the clear. anyway good luck with it and try and take alot of pictures of your progress and start a thread like this one if you haven't and send me the link Id love to watch your progress.

Not alot I have been busy looking after my daughter but believe it or not I have cleaned and painted all the bits and pieces that make up the rear brakes like the springs and brackets and a few bars and clips, once its all together Ill take a photo of it, I couldn't imagine anyone else painting all the parts in different colours and the back plate is gold zinc so it should look good even if it will only ever be seen in the pictures on here,, Ill get some more done soon,

I never like to say rude things about someone's hard honest efforts... but I really can't understand that.

Did the diff centre receive as much attention to detail? :P

Anyway if everything is half as neat as that the car will be awesome

haha unfortunately no paint or coatings on the diff centre but it was cleaned very well, and new diff nuts, all the bolts for the diff where gold zinc plated,
theres not much to understand, I just don't want anything going on the car unless its New, plated in zinc or chrome or painted, when i got to the rear brakes I just thought it would look good
with everything in colour instead of just cleaned metal that rusts, I know it will all be black before to long when its on the rd but I know its all done to a reasonably nice level
and it was a bit of fun and I really do like the red springs especially the small one on the yellow bar, they were jobs I was able to do when I was stuck looking after my daughter, The springs were so rusty looking so I cleaned them up on the wire wheel and they came up like new, then I knew they would rust again so on went the paint, at least I might be able to blow off the black crap and have reasonable looking brakes one day,, but theres no way I could get the springs on without a few scratches and I didn't brush touch them,,,,,yet haha

I have my brake booster in the engine bay and also have a few of the brake lines and that junction that's under the master cylinder in, I also have a new master cylinder now,
The next step is to put in the brake and fuel lines that go underneath for the length of the car, put the brake drums on and front pads in the calipers and then bleed the brakes and ill set up the steering coulomb and then its time to put it back on its wheels and put the engine in, now that will be a moment.

Well a while ago I cut the gear change linkages off of my steering coulomb and welded up the space where they came out,
Today I finished it off and painted it and it looks just like they were never there,
I have a picture but its not very good Ill have to take a better one outside in real light,
black items don't seem to show up to well with a flash in a darker area in the shed
It actually looks better in the flesh than in the photo

yes I am starting to see that its moving along now but still so slow unfortunately but I am enjoying what I am doing and aiming to have it on the rd in 12 months, well as my time on the car is totally unpredictable and limited at the same time, I think 12 months would be a great achievement. I had actually thought it would have been done by now but I just don't get the time that I thought I would,, But not to worry Im still enjoying it.

mate things are looking good with your project!!
semi gloss paint code 04 149

Well I went to the paint shop and gave them the code and couldn't believe it when they said it didn't mean anything to them, I think he just wanted to do his own version,, I must say it does look great
he said they do the black for a restoration company and they use a satin black with a slash of white I think it was just to give it the slightly bluey black, not straight black anyway,, well I do like the result so quite happy with it, I think it looks great,
Thanks for the code anyway

Thanks for that I will see what suppliers are local with Dulon products,,, I don't suppose that's the same colour for the paint outs on the outside is it
If it was I would consider it worth re doing the engine bay,,, infact I may possibly re do it anyway before the motor goes in that way I can't say I wish I did

Just an Update of the gearbox with the linkages,,, notice one of the connectors is a plastic joiner with the thread through it,, is there a metal type or maybe I can replace it with the metal one in red that's on the other linkage.

hey squirell, has your bellhousing and back of your gearbox been glass beated or polished? looks realy good the way it came up.

Cheers Blake

I used degreaser on the whole gearbox and then used a wire wheel to just clean up a few extra spots on the bell-housing then just used a silver engine paint, the rear of the box just has a dust coat over it as it was pretty good already but just had a few little blemishes, I haven't painted the centre section for some reason I love the colour and even the slight imperfections in that dark redy brown colour so I just sprayed a clear over it to give it a bit of shine.
If you get the alloy parts acid washed or material blasted the raw alloy will stain so easily so it needs a coat of paint or the other thing I would do if it was a show car would be to sand the complete alloy units to a smooth finish and polish them, but that's over board for my car, but that would look awesome better than shit hot

Well I Noticed with a friends help that the gearbox didn't seem to be able to change from forward gears to reverse gears,, so on inspection I found some parts that should be mounted but they are rolling around on the bottom of the gearbox tail, that's what I call the alloy extension, So now I am after a damaged gearbox to obtain this part and I have no idea how it comes out yet but ill work on that over the next day or two,
here is a picture of what I found

Well I was going to get the part and do the gearbox myself but when I went to a specialist to get the part he suggested I get it all checked out to save putting it all in and finding something else wasn't right or that I put the part in and it didn't sit right,, so I took it in and all my shifters and he is going to check it all out and set the shifter up and adjust it all so its perfect when it goes in and also check the gears to ensure its Xu-1 spec, he said it probably won't be so I am getting ready to bend over for that I am sure, well If I can afford it I will for sure but if its to expensive I will do it another day as long as its ok and not some commercial ute gearing, he told me a story about a guy that did a car up and that's what he had.
He will also put a new plastic bit on, he recons the metal ones will end up rattling and the noise of the rattle will end up traveling up the gear stick and as I am not going to give the car a hard time by racing it or burnouts the plastic should be ok.
He also said it is likely to be an m20 as it only had a single groove in the shaft and the m21 had a dual or 2 grooves, I will check that all out tomorrow, he also said that some people convert them from V8 box's as well so he will tell me more tomorrow when I go there, He will probably charge me double just for all the questions I will ask tomorrow

the V8 and 6 cyl boxs are the same except for the front drive shaft which is longer for the 8, the shafts are interchangeable
8 m20 to 6 m2o, 8 m21 to 6 m21
