Hayden,
you need at least 12.7psi for every 1G of acceleration.
Don't for get about the G spike at launch.
And keep you regulator FORWARD of the carbs.

Cheers Greg..

Use a return style (not a dead head)regulator forward of the carbs & you shouldn't have any probs.

arh hell i new this was a bad idea (Fitting electric fuel pump)........................... i know what you mean that will require a complete new fuel system at carb end as well.BUT

i can see how this system works with the return style reg and holley type pump holley type carb, but with this return style fuel pump if i were to fit a return style reg up front i will most likley have to block the pump return off completly and then rely on it to pump up the front and regulate it back to 3psi after carbs and then it would be pumping like well it reconds 275GPH freee flow i think past the weber carbs that scares me a bit it could prolly blow the arse clean out of the float bowl if somthing were to go wrong hehe.

geez i can see now why we stayed with the 6 valve chev mech both when we ran pump fuel and alcohol...............

Cheers Hayden

hi pacey,

we have run 12.79@ 105mph on pump fuel and 12.83 @107mph on alcohol. we just have a profesionaly ported 9 port head and flat tappet cam 255deg @.050" 500" lift and acl pistons red crank blue rods. no never had it on a dyno only at strip.

we now are running same head and cam little less comp but forged pistons and a fair amount of other stuff on this engine but you would have read about it in this thread anyway.

Cheers Hayden

Hi,
just an update i have now fitted the vac pump but there is a few teething problems with it already just started it thisafternoon yet to drive it it seems very noisey and might be pulling to much oil aswell but will have to drive it to make sure and i gather i need to drive it to set regulator valve.. so here are some pics of it.

Thanks Hayden

Hi Drag lc

Just thought I'd show you my mad project. It'll also answer people's questions whether or not you can use mechanical injection and strata turbo systems.

That vacuume pump pulley is too small, they need to be under driven (never over 6000 revs). The crank pulley should be half its size, thats why you are pulling oil. They should pull a small amount of oil, to help lubricate the seals.

it is underdriven, he sed he's only taking it to 7000, so the pump would be spinning at near 6000 at those revs.
but cant see clearly in those pics. what diametre is the balancer and pully hayden?

The balancer pulley in that pic looks larger than the pulley on the pump, so if it is, its over driven. Could be the photo but I don't think so.

Na he's just got the belt loose so once the pump hits 6000 the belt starts slipping.

yeah you are right it is over driven not by much i did do all the calculations and yeah 6,000 is tops for vac pump but dont have much room for a smaller pulley as the dam radiator is pretty thick but id say im going to have to make a small pulley for crank that will pick up the 3 balancer bolts up most people iv seen and spoke to said around 3" diam drive pulley.

but the noise it makes is like a baffle loose on an exhaust pipe but makes the noise whether it is blowing into breather box or not and makes it even if it isint pulling vac at all?.iv only had it running up on jack stands i guess when i drive it it might get a little quiter?.

Thanks Hayden

hi
have been told that it will get quiter once run in. so i then went and made this new pulley arangement today and seems alot better way quiter am yet todrive it but pulls vacume at around 4,000 so will play with regulator valve tommorow as i still have to make spacer for pump hub .

but the new pulley is 2" diameter and from my calculations should spin pump to just under 3,000rpm

ok have finaly test driven this car today first off the vac pump was pulling alittle much vac than needed around 17" when flat, so i then changed that and it now has 13" when flat and has 5" at 2,000rpm so i think it has turned out alright i also think it sucks out a little bit to much oil from engine as i drove it across town and with 2 test runs and drive back home it sucked about 1 litle of oil out but will sus that out as if it is to much oil i will put the regulator valve on the tank i made insteed of rocker cover.

Cheers Hayden
