And now we know that HB's need mods to turn those pizza cutting tyres.....

Oh yes but you forget....

The downside to all that horsepower is the amount tyres that you seem to go through.
All I can say, is thank God for Bunnings and Kelso.

Ever tried eating a whole pizza without cutting it lc138.I try keeping away from pizza bars in my hb as the auto might get outer control on slipperey pizza filling and if somebody gets stuck in a rice custard whilst having desert i could not help.As for the TA they had 6 years evolution development over the HB the last 5 years under the mighty H.I rest my case

I think we're getting off track here.... weren't we discussing which one was worse, the TA or the HB? I mean, i'd put my vote on the TA personally, outer control needs some backup!

Great stuff,
Mighty 4's, lol. The TA was at Toranafest 2005, 2007 and 2008.
Had original skinny wheels on for the 2007 one as part of the 7 models display.
Cheers

Anyhow, back to the debate.

Let me recite some passages from the 1969 sales brochure...

'69 Torana - For the fun of it !

"Torana makes itself your kind of car. Two big doors bring out the sports in you; four doors are for practical reasons. Like lifting smallfry in and out. And letting the dog out without having a tail wagged in your face"

'69 Torana is luxury in three degrees.

There lies your problem outer...You have to compare apples with apples.

The HB you own is the latter and therefore is better suited for "Practical Reasons"
That is why you become nervous when you drive near that bowl of rice pudding.

And how's the interior of the mighty HB

Posted Image

Look at all that space !!

Now onto the boot.....

"Your luggage gets looked after too. Boot volume is a big 16 cubic feet, and more to the point, all of it is usable. In it you can fit the baby's carriage, a stack of parachutes, or a picnic lunch for 200"

The first being for the "practicle reasons"
The second to assist with stopping power for the excessive horsepower.
And the third for a regular HB get together. (This does not include Brabham because as well as being the rarest of all Toranas, they are also indeed the most collectable of the whole range, affectionately known as the jewel in the crown)

This boot space certainly had the P76 shaking in its shoes....

Day 2 Wrap-Up .... Not in any particular order.

LC and LJ 4 cylinder owners are yet to enter the debate.
If they had, they would most certainly be on the side of HB's.

Two door cars are better than four door cars.

HB's have a racing pedigree.

TA's appear to have a spare steering wheel option to assist in dirty driving tactics.
Outer Control's Barbados TA is allegedly red in colour.

You can buy tyres for both models at most leading Hardware Stores.

South Africa has nothing to do with this topic whatsoever.

Muzzta has a time machine, that has been used to participate in the 2009 Toranafest.

HB1200 is a name dropper.

There are cool HB's in New Zealand.

KB didn't race a HB, I was just talking them up.
I have dibbed red wall tyres.

SLR_V8 is in the inner sanctum.

LC 138 has got no idea what she is talking about and is actually a HB fan that really would like one.

Outer Control can eat pizzas whole, while bowls of rice pudding and custard make him nervous.

Top Gun, the meek and mild HB will look great at All Torana Day 2009.

Fish eye lenses or vertically challenged people were never used in any promotional advertising material.

The boot of HB's are huge.

You either have a HB or wish you did.
Brabham HB's are the most desirable of any model Torana.

The HB Torana is the clear winner for day 2 of the debate.....

Regards

In addition to previously stated HB attributes...

You can never deny your origin or historyHB was the first.

They were Holden's first motor racing background endorsed vehicle - i.e. by an Aussie none the less - i.e. Jack Brabham (Not the John Goss Special / Allan Moffat Special / 1980 VC Brockmobile). Is there an earlier endorsement?

The HB was first Holden participation in world car concept - i.e. same platform across multiple continents with local modifications as required. Fast forward to 2009 and that is a double edged sword however.

The four-door body was an entirely Australian development -exported back to UK and other GM divisions.

The rarity of the Brabham Torana rarely gets a mention.on sheer stats must rate as rare as.

Who has seen a Brabham in real life let alone been in one driven one?

The suspension (on all models) was coils all round with four link setup - a first for Holden.

Rack and Pinion steering another Holden first.

Where did the XU-1 dash originate?

In the 1967 Bathurst race a HB (presumably a 'Brabham') finished 14 laps behind the class winning Datsun 1000. cant dispute thats the first Torana victory.

In the 1968 Alpine Rally (final round of the Australian championship) a HB won.

Delicious under bonnet presentation.

Look at attached colour range- very nice.

Boot space - 453 litres just short of X series Fords and 'H' series.

Highly regarded handling, ride and brakes.

Motorless heater.groundbreaking!

First use of S and SL nomelecature.

last but not least. My 69 SL Auto with four friends on board was overtaken by a tram on a long hill in Melbourne and when I did a driving course at Thunderdome we wre let loose on the dome for a few laps I was passed by a prick in his Mitsubishi L300 vanLOL

i thought this debate was about the little big wheel variants not commondores with their 13in torana bits model. If you want to talk about rarity APL the mighty pus {sorry} plus four outshines all torana
4s with style size performance and rare as,tell me when have you last seen one.As LC 138 said me and my new best friend Muzza need the support here of our mighty LC LJ brothers.Prove to me you are not bogans and are computer literate.I warn you APL if i am forced to bring the mighty plus four into this debate i will to knock your brabham off its perch.I rest my case.
