Well didn't quite get it all finished today, Fully welded the drivers side:
Decided to polish and fully weld each piece as I went when doing the passenger side (only about half done), Realised its going to be a PITA to polish the drivers side as one piece.
To fly?

Just had a full read of your thread Clint, well done this is going to be a great car. Hurry up and post a video of you flogging it down the strip!

Thanks Jack. Yea I cant wait to get it on the road let alone the strip!
Have finally got around to finishing the rear section of exhaust...
Half polished:
All polished:
Im not sure about the length... maybe too long? Im going to wait until the "drop tank" is fitted and will check out pics of other Torana's before I decide to cut or not.. I wonder if exhausts are included in the departure angle rule like drop tanks? Also any opinions on the 45degree tips? considering cutting them square...

Clint exhaust look fine
and no they are not included in the departure angle ......I have been talking about this topic with a engineer and the departure angle is taken from the lowest fixed point of the body of your car .....the beaver panel
Departure angle is from bottom of tyre to bottom lowest point of the beaver panel
so this means exhaust and towbars are not legal by their rules ?????
this is the way it was explained to me ......

The departure angle is about protecting the fuel tank from damage. The only component that has to be within the departure angle is the fuel tank. It is not a safety issue if the exhaust, towbar, skirts or body is damaged by a steep driveway.
Exhausts, towbars and body modifications do not alter the departure angle even though they can protect the fuel tank from damage.
The exhaust looks good. Have you seen the V band clamps that can be used instead of flanges? One of the main benefits of the V band clamp is you can rotate the exhaust after welding to tweak fitment.

THose V bands are cool. Saw them in the last dogalogue and went Mmmmmmmm.
Clint, i know i dont have a box type torana, but looking at that side profile shot i recon it would look real cool if you cut the exhaust to follow the line of the rear beaver, so at the same angle, and perhaps 1" or so further rear from it....Would "tie" it in nicely....
Just IMO.
Cheers.

Will be good to see another Torana on the Perth streets

Well got a little done today... progress is slower then id like, but when isnt it?
The old brake line on the diff was touching the new exhaust:
Car on the ground:
Not to worry, easy fix. I love my brake line flaring tool, makes these jobs so easy... I just need one of those brake line straighteners!
I spoke to a auto elecy about the problem of the car not turning off with the key while the alternator warning light wire was connected and asked for a diode to help. He said a Diode would stop it back feeding but then my alternator warning light on the dash would not turn off once the engine is running... he asked what dash I had and I told him about the Dakota Digital which only has LED's to which he suggested the LED's may not be drawing enough of a load to stop it backfeeding and suggested putting a normal globe inline to see if that works.. So gave it a shot and yep all good, car starts and turns off like it should.
I also made the mistake of connecting the ECU directly to the battery... which is all well and good except that it bypasses my battery cut off switch. had to remove the back seat for access to the cables but all sorted now.
Gave the car a very much needed wash!
To-do list is slowly getting smaller but im also finding things... the rest of the K-frame bushes and all the trailing arm bushes are fkd also... So going to have to drop the K-frame! :( not happy about that. Contemplating making my own adjustable trailing arms if I can find a local supplier of DOM tubing but just means more time, I Could just buy a set...

Well I pulled the lower trailing arms out today to fix this:
I just stuck some super pro bushes (thanks Neil for supplying) into the stock arms for now... I priced up the components needed to make some trick custom adjustable arms myself but just the price for materials wasnt far off the price of what some of the US suppliers sell complete arms for, so ill probably just buy a set.
Fixed my air filter today also... Its one of those one where the top cover is actually filter as well... but its weak as p*** and when you do up the nut it just flexes and holds barely any pressure down on the rest of the assembly so it just bounced about and rattled...
So I knocked this up quickly... nothing fancy and a tiny bit of a intake restriction but worked great and now the filter is solid as.
Marked out and dropped off some stainless sheet to my sheet metal friend to be bent up for the drop tank as our bender at work is not big enough :( hopefully he has it done for me tomorrow and I can get that finished next weekend.

If it ends up half as nice as the Gemini it will be awesome.
Agree with Bomber too, I'd trim a bit off the exhausts at the rear, I think it will look better and you won't have to worry about dragging them on the ground every time you go over a bump or slight hill.

Done a bunch of little things, calibrated the speedo, removed the tint... hmm im sure ive done more but cant remember what.
Tint was easy to remove with my friends steamer
Well I got some stainless sheet about 6 weeks ago but our bender at work couldnt not do a nice straight bend the width I needed in the 1.5mm stainless so I sent it to my old mans friends sheety workshop to be bent up.. should take about a week he said... 6 weeks later I got it back.
Used some offcuts to get some practice and dial the machine in..
but I uh got abit carried away with some offcut strips and ended up with this, completely waste of time lol but I had fun..
Enough dilly dally, I made a start of welding on the sides of the drop tank
The side pieces were supposed to be one piece with a bend in the middle but the sheety got the rear section wrong and it didnt match up with the tank so I cut it off and will just make it from 2 separate pieces... no biggy just means 1 extra weld.
