Heath good luck with the build....but the one thing that EVERY one already in racing will say is its always cheaper, faster and easier to start with an already to race car.

Case in point....
$8700 ono its has a 355 stroker V8....
Forged pistons, balanced, roller rockers, 4 barrel quadrajet, new clutch and pressure plate to go with car. VK V8 diff, d/ brakes all round. King springs super lows 2 inch all round. Pedders shocks and sway bars. 18inch Avanti rims. New race seat and 5 pnt harness. Half cage

To give another example... I started with this VC Commo Race car for $5,500, it had a worked 202 with triple webers, full cage, 4 wheel discs etc, log booked and basically ready to race...

Ummm... okay, just like every other kind of vehicle, whether you're racing drag or entering shows or just want a quick streeter, of course it's cheaper to buy something that's already built.

Sorry for being so rude but I have no interest in driving a car that someone else put together. If I wanted a cheap hobby I would collect stamps, but I'd prefer to be a car enthusiast

Heath, you need a garage mate!

I think I was probably at about your age now, when i thought 'FFS, I'm saving up for my own house/shed!'

Looking forward to seeing this car evolve into a real fun car! Bring on the Drag Days, Skid Pan days etc etc!

Id honestly say that it isnt that much cheaper to buy someone elses "ready to race" car, I doubt I could have bought a 2 door LJ with full cage, buckets, harnesses etc for the cost of building one.

And atleast I know whats been done 100% and whats been bodgied up a little.

Can we stay on topic? I'm getting sick of my threads turning into stupid discussions. If you think you know better than me, PM me and rag on about it as much as you want, or start another thread. I don't need Captain Obvious giving me advice I didn't ask for. You're probably quite surprised by how much that post pissed me off, but trust me it did. Must be this weather

Borrowing a welder at the moment. Had some problems yesterday but got new part today and got it sorted this arvo after going to the Maccas Charity Display in the green machine

Sorry photos don't tell the whole story I keep on taking too many photos of some parts and none of the others lol. Basically the material around the rear screen is pretty good mostly, but the LHS is stuffed. I've fixed the rest but the LHS will need some replacement sections...

Few more repairs, wouldn't wanna have dial-up!

Base of the A pillar was full of crud. Got the screwdriver, compressed air and magnets in there and cleared it all out then welded over

I take it that tool you are using is a magnetic pick up tool, or something similar?

Bloody useful things.

Looks good, as usual Heath.

Ryan it's just a MIG mate, I love oxy - so controllable - but I don't think I'd wanna do it on panel steel, imagine the heat!

Yeah just a magnet on a stick from a stingy chinese shop, I'm always finding new uses for it :)

Cheers

The more I read your threads, the lazier I feel !! Good work mate, you have inspired me to fire up the mig and get busy. Might be an obvious question but what do you use to cut the metal (old and new)? I am assuming a cutting disc on a grinder? What about cleaning up the welds? A flap disc?

Yeah man no fancy LH SLR 3300 panel beating equipment here! (unfortunately lol - I would love to have access to that kinda stuff)

Just a run of the mill angle grinder, safety guard delete with both the standard and the super thin cutting wheels (the beauty of the fine ones is that if things you wanna weld don't line up perfectly, just cut a line with the fine one, bend & hold them flush and tack with the welder), and obviously I have standard metal grinding discs and a cup-style brass coated steel wire brush ($11 from bunnings) for removing paint.

Ahhh that feels better... Been wanting to say that in one of heath's thread for a while now!

Good work Heath! Your getting good with this welding stuff! I haven't touched a welder in years, and will be terrible the next time i ever do!!

lol most of these repairs are pretty shit mate, but still much better than filling it with sound deadener and then bogging over the top like some areas on the car

Good work Heath, what a great excuse to practice welding panel steel.
(And way better than bodging up with bread+bog)
Can't understand why you removed the plug for trailer lights though :P Surely you will be doing many
towing hours with this one if you are racing anywhere with Stewart... :stirpot:
