Ahhh yeah mate that was some 90s showcar called PINK-BITS I think? (don't know if it still exists), don't know the guy's name but he has definitely been on the forum before, and if I'm not mistaken, he has been building a bright green (barbados or similar) showcar over the last little while, he normally updates every few months but doesn't post a lot. Body colour all underneath, full showcar spec it's bloody impressive, dunno what to search for to track the build thread down... I could be wrong there though - it may be a different bloke building that one but similar attn to detail. Regardless, the builder of the car you're talking about has done a few Torries

Cheers

Ohh yeah and this car is continuing to progress

Well probably a bit overdue for an update hey? I would have done a lot more if the weather hadn't been gay but hey what can ya do

Filled up the gutters like I did on the last car, masked it out nicely and it came up okay, not perfect but you don't pay much attention to that area. Roof is painted now too

Got those little plates for adjusting the doors off slr5640, saved me having to fabricate them. Thanks!
Just went from this:

To this:

Incase you're wondering what the hell they are, they fit in the doors like this:

Did some work on the glass doors. Had to also make all the holes I wanted (as they only come with basically witness holes everywhere). Might notice I bought some hole saws too hahahaha

Thanks champ

Bought a steering wheel and some fixed back seats (6.5kg ea). Just mocked up, they need to go a bit higher, not sure how I'm gonna design the mounts yet.

And pulled apart some hinges that were stuffed, sandblasted everything, gave them a coat of paint. The colour looks so nice out in the sun! All I've gotta do is put the front hinges back together now. If people are interested I might do a write-up on re-bushing the hinges?

Thread title's stupid, shoulda called it 'sports car'. Yeah you can put glass in there but it's a hell of a lot of work - you need to make up the different shapes around the sills, rubbers etc. But mounting the winding mechanism itself is almost the same as usual so that's not a problem. I know of certain Toranas with fibreglass doors and you just wouldn't know, but I'm not hung up on doing that kinda thing when there are no rear seats anyway!

Thanks guys

Nice work Heath. Did you cut the holes in the hinge plates with a hole saw?

Heath, have you been weighing the parts before and after? It would be interesting to see how much weight you are saving in various aspects...

Let's just say the main difference is in removing components, and/or replacing them with fibreglass ones, hahaha. A few months ago I was talking to a guy with a registered race car who said that when he is competing in an off-street event he removes this and that even down to the globes for the lights that he doesn't need :blink2:

Well I don't think that kinda shit is important but if I can take any weight out of things without making them unable to provide the structural integrity I need them to, then I'll do it pretty much. And that rule applies to a lot of components, it might be f'all but everything adds up, and every kilo you go down, the more different the next kilo makes!

Yeah all the holes are done with hole-saws, and I cut sections out with a bandsaw too, the rear door hinges also have no springing mechanisms or anything so there is no stress on that part of the door frame, but I did it fairly neatly so you wouldn't really notice, they just swing open and closed uninterrupted, unlike standard (or the front doors) that will actually get used a bit.

Hey i didn't realise you sikaflexed up the the gutters like that. Is that just for a factory sort of finish?

And mate i love all the little weight reductions. Very cool. A trip to the weighbridge will be mandatory once you get it all running.

It also seals the seams up so water does not seep into the join and rust it out. Massive pain in the arse to fix once it gets going. I have also done the gutters in my car for that reason.
