I knocked of work at lunchtime on Friday the 17th and hit the road.
First stop was at the end of my street with a tank of premium at the 7-11.

As many of you know,I live in St Marys in Western Sydney, and as the (loose) plan was to follow the coast around the bottom of the country,
Wollongong was the first stop.

The smell of the ocean and the sun shining bright put a big smile on my dial and I was glad I stopped to checkout a spot Ive been to dozens of times before,
but not for more than 10 years.
We (me and The Goon) continued on down the coast through all the sleepy little villages along the way, just sucking in the scenery, till we got to Narooma.
Found a nice little park opposite a bottlo for a short break.

mmmmmm..Spam and eggs...

Then back on the road for a bit.
Tilba

Im pretty sure thats Bega down there in the distance.

I zigged when I should have zagged and ended up just a little inland for the first nights rest.
No matter.
Back on the road nice and early...

Lakes Entrance(I think)

Pic time.
Wilsons Promontory National park.

A truely beautiful place.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have considered Victoria a Holiday must see destination.
My opinion has changed.
I stopped in Melbourne that night at Rodomos place.(thanks for everything Rob).

A top night was had ,and I got to check out heaps of top-secret-if-I-told-you-I'd-have-to-kill you research and developement.
Not to mention the inside of a few tinnies....
After a little preventative maintenance as advised by Rob,and some directions to get out of Town,it was back on the road.

Ya gotta be quick getting this kind of shot....and the weather was turning bad.
Torquay.

Freezing cold, pissing down and blowing a gale.
Welcome to Bells Beach.

Oh well.If you are gunna drive The Great Ocean Road,You have to start at the beginning.
Heres some more along the way.

I decided to stroll out to the end of this...blowing a gale...got 20 meters from the end and it and it started raining.
But you couldnt get the smile off my face.
I wasn't welding,and I wasn't grinding

A shot from the end.

This is The Koorong Natioal park....plenty of salt here...

I thought I took more shots, but the bugs mustve scared me off...Lots of birdlife here if thats your thing..except for the the sound of the flies and mozzies,a very peaceful spot.

Went up to a place called Hahndorf from here...sorry,left the camera in the car so I couldnt get a shot of the spunky rockabilly blonde wearing leopard skin tights and ears on a headband...
I hand a real nice foccacia,though...
I got lost going through Adelaide,so no pics there either..
Some salt lake...

This is one of my favorite shots of the whole trip....its somewhere between Adelaide and Port Augusta....

Heading off down the Ayre Peninsula.
Glorious.

I had some dramas with my sunvisor and roadtrains,so I pulled it off for the duration..

Port Lincoln..

Very jealous of what must have been an amazing adventure.
I've seen that sunvisor thing happen on other early Holdens and leave nasty damage on the roof. You look like you caught it time.
How did the Goon go? Must have been about 6,000 miles or more?

You get hammered by media pics of spectacular spots,12 Apostles,Uluru,Great Barrier Reef etc.
But sometimes you take a quick squirt up a dirt track to see what you can see,and you find a place you'd be happy to have you're ashes scattered.
This is coming back up the eastern side of the Ayre Penninsular.

Like I said, plenty of straight road....

Belladonia Roadhouse in WA....

Pissing down in the middle of the desert west of Belladonia.....go figure???
Belladonia is famous coz its where Skylab punched a hole in the ground(look it up,young fellas..)

Esperance. One of the prettiest places I visited on the whole trip.

Grabbed myself a decent room for a change in Esperance, too.Awesome bacon and eggs, too.

This is all about 630 in the morning.

Its a shit photo, but I felt pretty lucky when I saw these suckers,Either real big Dolphins or Killer whales.

Move along, move along. Nothing to see here..

Heading up the West coast now.

I never did find out how such a little glass of beer can cost so much money.
I doubt the locals drink there..

The Peel Alehouse.

Looking past mothers milk to the Goon.
Rockingham I think.

and looking back over The Goon to the bar I just drank at.

Fremantle late in the arvo on xmas eve.
Now I just have to find my buddies place out in the Burbs for xmas and a drink...
