Hi everyone
I am buggered, just got home from the Nats. Big drive towing the torana, & with the family (two kids under 2 and a half).
Spoke to Grant a couple of times over Friday & Saturday, great bloke. Grant I wish I had of seen your exit from the Nats!
Sorry Gerry, I had a look over at the Canberra Club but no one was around when I was there, looking at all of the Toranas. Congratulations on the club award and awesome display. I would have parked my torana with you guys but I didn't know you were having a club display & I had already set up elsewhere.
3 Canberra Torana Club cars in the Top 60, outstanding effort.
"KNGSLR", great work with Top 20. Watched it go through judging on Friday,
"LX SS", beautiful black hatch. Also saw it at MotorEx in Melbourne too.
Valencia LX A9X replica, awesome car. Saw it cruising on the Friday and blew me away. Great to see it rewarded with a place in the Top 60.
See you all at Toranafest or next years Summernats 29! I will be at both.
Cheers Darren

How the hell do you change a tyre on that thing? Must be on airbags or something surely.

The final day highlight for me was the dyno finals. I missed the earlier runs but arrived in time for the end of the 6 cyl forced induction class.
Don't think its wort the hassle of going turbo?

Very nice orange charger was the winner of the 6 cyl N/A class with 234.9 hp.

Very nice Torana with big ass turbo on a 2JZ made 1321.9 hp.

Big boy time!
Runner up in the forced induction V8s was the very nice ATTACK Chevy. 632 BBC with twin turbos.cranked out 1585 hp. image.jpg 171.55K 3 downloads
Then it was time for Jakes yellow Torana. Famous for many years for cranking out obscene hp. Made 2025.5 hp at the tyres, grenadine the turbo impeller on the last run!

The oil smoke filled dyno hall after the turbo lunched itself.

The White one was very rough up close. I find this reassuring. We should all be a little less worried about taking our own imperfect toys out and about.

That "rough" white LJ gets driven all over the place. Points to the owner for using it. He's an alright bloke too, had a chat to him at a burnout comp a few years ago, and it's been to Toranafest as well. Runs a blown chev.

Ive seen that blue hatch a couple of years ago at Toranafest its an absolute stunning car
Yeah I've seen pics of it before, seems really well thought out in terms of colours and design, and very well done too.
I'd have it in my shed no worries!

That's just wrong I reckon, you shouldn't be able to 'buy' the award.
I understand some people don't have certain skills and need to subbie-out some of the work, but that car shouldn't be the so-called "best" just because it had the most money spent on it.
Even if money was no object I'd rather spend fifty grand and do it all myself than spend two hundred grand and just trailer it from one shop to the next, but maybe that's just me?

I knew there had to be a story behind this apparently confused hatch owner so I went and had a chat. The plates are being "looked after" until they can return to his sons car which is in bits. He said it had been more than a decade...

A pretty serious drag radial effort. Hoping for sixes. The bloke was rather coy about the hours and dollars its soaked up so far.

Plenty of folk there had cars that owed them more than that. Many had cars that owed them nearly nothing. That's what's nice about the event.
For me it's about the car as presented for the event its in. It's journey to get there is a bit moot.
