I'm against exploding bango's simply due to fact that you'll never fully enjoy modded baby torrie unless you get that rear end stepping out...it's a natural occurence imho

Simplest conversion to get engineered

253 or 308/trimatic or m21,use hq or lh/x mounts,standand tailshaft,diff,speedo cable etc

exhaust is combination of kingy header & early commo header

hq radiator & shroud, use plastic flexi fan

Only real aftermarket item to buy willl lc-j v8 sump, small dissy cap & rotor

Rest of other stuff bolts on or mod slightly...over time can pick up all that stuff cheap as chips especially if you do all labour.

*complete 253/trimatic or m21 with quaddie be easiest & cheapest starting point..wait your time they go that cheap nearly get given away.

I fail to understand how you cant understand that you cant get a 308/5lt engineered in QLD without a massive headfrOck....

Read budget 8 k wont happen with a V8 conversion

Just because it's said to be a headf*ck does not mean impossible nor does it mean it has to be a '5ltr' can be 253,283 f*ck knows what can be passed untill you try.

Several dudes on here s.a,vic & nsw got v8 cars passed when peeps here comment 'cant be done blah blah' if Lc69 is seriously keen to do it the onus is on him to do the homework & get approval.

If you cant do v8 conversion with engineers in baby torana under 8k made out of junker 2nd hand parts & doing majority of labour yourself then they'd have problems with a mild 202...give up now, leave 161 in it & close roller door or move to another state.

That's my understanding but I haven't actually asked around.
It sounds like there may be some ways around it, but it might start to venture into the "to hard" basket.
A simple 253 would keep my happy and tick the boxes.
Obviously a lot of dead weight compared to a 308, but not a big issue for the purposes of what I'm trying to achieve.

Banjo is fine spline (although I have never personally checked).
Currently an auto, so not sure on ratio.

Changing the diff is going to add to the engineering list, so I might try and avoid that.....until it brakes maybe...

Maybe I should follow natural progression......
1/ Build a 6, bolt to existing auto.
2/ Manual conversion....could always change input shaft for V8 later?
3/ Drive and consider what's next.

Correct. The NCOP is a guildeline, you can engineer things that are outside of these guideliens.

You will spend a lot closer to 30k by the time its legal though.

There are still a few dodgy engineers signing them off here, but alas if you have an accident or the like regardless of what paperwork you can show your CTP is null and void etc etc....

Not worth it.

Cheers.

Were you told it is a fine spline Banjo by the previous owner? The std banjo for an LC trimatic is 2.78:1 ratio and course spline.

I Was.
Hasn't been high on my radar to check because the plan has always been to remove the axels and do a rear disk upgrade.
I Figured I would find out sooner than later.
Although, a few course spline axels have come up for sale with stud patron already changed.
I really should try and find some time to check.

forgive my ignorance, but did any LC's come out with a 202?  I know it is basically the same car as lj, - where a blue, or possible black 202 is doable without engineering or mod plate ??  i am in QLD and was under the impression some form of mod plate ( minor)? was needed for an lc above 186 (technically)   a while ago i went hunting in the regs but couldn't find what i was looking for.... so info about what is allowed/ doable / required would be good for me.also

i gather if say the blue motor came with emissions stuff ,then again technically it should retain that if transplanted in an lc or lj?  ( mods feel free to split if this is invading the OPs train of thought)

Under the NCOP your allowed to fit any engine size fitted within the family. LC and LJ are classified as a family, so 202's are ok.

You are correct that technically a blue or black 3.3 or 2.8 should retain all of its emissions gear to be legal, but no one does that :P

The largest engine released in the LC 4 door range was a 173. The largest engine released in the LC 2 door range was the 186 in the XU1

Surely I don't need to engineer a 202. That would just be crazy.

So would a virgin black 202 be the best place to start?
