Brett, I checked out those video's. Sure looks faster but they are restricted for versatility. There are so many times when the edge of the disc is the only part of disc that'll reach or do the job so that Cubricon becomes a bit limited.  I think I'm stubborn.

Thanks gtrboyy and Brett.

Marty

It's simply about versatility Marty. Having different options for different situations and using the most suitable to your advantage.

yeah those 3m cubitron II are the best out there as far as sanding discs go, I rate the grinding discs as well.  They last so long.  They used to be about $5 for the sanding discs and $10 for the grinding discs.  I've used 100's of them.

Looks like you've done a good job with what you have used though.

Those 10mm air belt sanders are good for tight access areas as well, just make sure you use a decent belt on them.

Yeah, I've got one of those 10mm air sanders. Comes in very handy in those impossible to get to areas. Haven't found a quality belt yet, they don't last long.

Spack - Dave. Yes I already have three grinders with different discs running.

I think I've become a pretty good grinder through all this.

It's a skill all of it's own. :spoton:

Try 3m Cubitron II for the belts.

A 90 degree die grinder setup to take roloc discs is handy to have around as well.  https://www.ebay.com...T4AAOSwz-FfJTCp

I wonder what the longevity of the cubitron 3 is against a conventional grinding disc. I find the conventional 32 grit (thereabouts) sanding discs need to be changed frequently, and they aren’t cheap, relatively speaking. I’m sure they would last longer than those, but maybe not the 1/4” grinding disc. Mind you my boilermaker brother in law gave me a box of 1/4” grinding discs 15 years ago and I’ve still got half of them.

the fibre sanding discs are junk compared to the cubitron II ceramics.  fibre will just clog up.  I do a lot of grinding at work and couldn't imagine being without them.  You really need to go out and buy one to see for yourself.  36 grit would be my recommendation.

Be careful with a new one, don't use a lot of pressure as they will take a lot of material out :)

Completely agree. The 3m cubitron belts are amazing, wouldn't be without them.
They make grinding welds so quick and easy, we use them everyday.

Fitting the piece that joins the two repair panels together is complicated.

I got a piece of metal from a friend that had been bent up to match one of the repair panels. Problem is the repair panels are slightly different (Rares mistake) and the other issue is the rear of car is curved.

So these pics show how I had to cut and add a wonky joiner to the two sides. The messy join will be hidden behind filler pipe.

Not easy to eyeball that area. It's a bit squint.

Marty, If that's the biggest problem you've got at the end of the build I think we'll all still agree you've done "OK" and still give you a "Pass"!! LOL :stirpot:

The build is an inspiration, that most wouldn't have been game to start, let alone still pushing through... well done  :clappin:

Thanks all, encouragement appreciated.

Really looking forward to finishing off the rear, it won't be long now and it'll be strong enough to go on a rotisserie. (once I finish the front guards)

These brackets are key to integral strength of the rear end. Due to the left hand side floor pan not being as original I had to adjust one bracket to get the bolt hole to line up.

Plenty of plug welds. I counted seven original spot welds on the bit that joins beaver so I did seven plugs.

Thanks Graham and Gene. Here's a bit more ridiculous stuff.

The bit that always rusts at the base of boot latch support is next on the list.  Again using what I have lying around to form up the piece, trying to incorporate all the original tabs makes it just that bit more of a head frOck!

After Rust Blast, It's also good for turning the metal all a similar colour so you don't have distracting shine grinding marks.

Checked the tank again for clearance then rust blast the new metal and finally Rust sealed.

Rear end done - moving forward to the rear floor pan next.
