Its a XY - I believe - sailsbury type with a spool and 3.55 gears
Setup for Commodore pattern and disc brakes
I still need to find a diff for the SS hatch with 385 cubes of Chev goodness but I'll probably go for the 9" variety there
But...... I know a guy whos fitting a big sailsbury into his hatch and needs a detroit if you know where to find one

I did this in the other thread, the Nissan one was 1460mm overall BUFs and the LH was 1450...either way..it was 10mm difference..SO do we know the total width of the Lh-LX diff with drums fitted. I measured mine very quickly with the wheels on and it was 1440mm. I'll re measure it tomorrow with the wheels off and straight edges. What's the A9X 10 bolt width?

I was told by Phil Taverna Chassis that the standard LX torana diff is 56.5 inches or 1435mm. I measured by original LX diff as 1438mm.
For a road car as long as you do not increase the track by more than 25mm then you will not have a problem.
LX Torana
SL Front 1394mm
SL Rear 1372mm
SS Front 1405mm
SS Rear 1382mm

Except in Qld....they wouldnt know what a track was or how to measure it...shit! I had to show the 20yo girl where the bloody engine number was!!!....bottom line is...and we have had 5 different measurements...which all depend on where you do it from..the Nissan diff is 10mm wider then a std LH one.For a road car as long as you do not increase the track by more than 25mm then you will not have a problem.

I have heard this before but it does not make any sense. What does the track of the donor vehicle have to do with anything? There must be other criteria. And When you do an engineered diff swap in qld, the track measurement is based on the conversion diff, not the Torana one anyway.

Track can be altered by changing the axles, rims or brakes.
The WA requirements are in the National Code of Practice page 17.
http://www.dotars.go...ng_3Feb2006.pdf
The vehicle modification application form has questions covering the front and rear track before and after modification. You can expect the track to be checked before a permit will be issued for diff or brake conversions.

The idea is to prevent too much side loading on the wheel bearings and axles.
Saying all that, qld is in the process of bringing in the new national regs - My compliance guy tells me they are both in effect at the moment.

Use the skyline diff if you want to run HQ ofset wheels, OR
Use a VL turbo or 5.0 diff if you want to run Commodore offset.
If you use the Skyline diff, standard commodore offset rubs on the inner guard...
I have used both, just depends on what wheels you want to run.....
I preffer the VL version cause there is no redrilling of axles needed...

Simple decision. Sell the full spool to me for $50 and that answers your question and helps me out too.I bought an LSD centre for $80 and a full spool for $165, so I now need to decide what way to go.

the axle flange bolts on the pintara diff are rotated about 45 degrees compared to the commodore. this affects running the commodore handbrake as even if you redrill the backing plate to suit, it still puts a flange bolt smack in the spot where the adjuster sits.
so i have more homework to do if i want to run a handbrake....

I dunno what i'm going to do with the VL diff i was given now.

Can anyone tell me what they paid for their nissan b/w diff? That also factors into the cost of the diff swap.
Cheers

I was suprised with how the diff & wheels fit under the torana's bum.
Cheers
