My g/f's brother just bought a torana with a VL disc brake diff in it, and it doesn't look like the diff has been shortened at all, just had the torana suspension mounts put on. Std 15" commy " chassers " fill out the rear guards fairly decent and don't foul on anything.

I was suprised with how the diff & wheels fit under the torana's bum.

Cheers

ToranaGuy

VL diff is 4"/100mm wider each side.

torana track 1372 - 1400 Vl track 1433, would go pretty close using the right commy wheels without shortening.

i found this out the hardway....

the axle flange bolts on the pintara diff are rotated about 45 degrees compared to the commodore. this affects running the commodore handbrake as even if you redrill the backing plate to suit, it still puts a flange bolt smack in the spot where the adjuster sits.

so i have more homework to do if i want to run a handbrake....

any more work on this as i have just bought a skyline diff and i have a 3.08 lds center for it...........

now would like some more info in this handbrake set up before i get the torana brackets welded on.......

any word on this guys?

Could you put that 1 bolt in the other way around?

We are definately working from a different GMH manual.Go back to page one..then the 2 other threads on this...dont know where you are getting your measurements from...but they is wrong Honey. Track has nothing to do with it..its all BUF..ask Chopper.

^ we are talking about two very different things but with the same outcome.
Look at it this way, you choose a tyre and stick with it, it has to fit the car right, but you are free to choose the off set of your wheels, within reason, which gives you a choice of different diff lengths.
FYI track is the measurement from tyre centre to centre.

Apologies to ALX..late night..I was talking about BUF..he was quoting Track. Agree on the offset Commy wheels..But I have to run HQ so need the BUF accurate to LH width. Currently the diff is 10mm wider each side..we are looking to see if there is 10mm of axle protruding out of the Full Spool when it is fitted...it there is..we are going to cut the ends off..remove 10mm and weld them back on..thereby being spot on...will keep you posted.

It looks like my g/f's bro & i need to measure the diff to see if it was cut or not. We were told it wasn't cut.

Cheers

If you measure the distance from BUF to BUF, it won't be the same as the track.

Assorted BUF measurements:

LH - UC: 1435 mm
VK II & VL: 1526 mm
Most VN: 1546 mm

I didn't bother with the L34/A9X measurement, as it's fairly unlikely you'll find one.

Super happy with job...Just picks up a small section o the cast housing..redrilled an welded axles and redrilled rotors to HQ style. Even welded the brake lines holders on as well for the Nissan rear brakes. They fitted the rear cover so I will whip that off this arvo..fit axles and do an overall size/length to bolt up face.
