chopper, i believe your referring to the rack ends, the bushes which are where the rack ends swivel up and down as you go over bumps etc .... if so then these are a simple small bush so i am told and should be easy enough to replace yourself.

The front end is virtually all organised. There are only three things I can't do myself in the garage. Press in the new lower ball joints, press in the new lower control arm bushes and machine the front discs. If I could find someplace local ( maybe Ringwood? ), then that would only leave one item to be sorted. The front springs. I have decided on the spec I want, the only problem is findiong a place in Melbourne that can do it quickly and for a reasonable amount. The rest of it is easy.

I was actually hinting if Stedz could do it at his work, as he will be doing most of my brake work. My local Pedders wants $190 for a pair of 90/10 front shockers. I wonder how reasonable that is?

Here's a story you've probably never heard before.

" I'm sorry sir, we can't get those parts".

Anyway, I'll see what I can get done with the parts I did get this morning. Still should have the front crossmember back in today.

L/H rack end bush and pin still available from Holden 18 months ago if the same as Commodore (looks the same as I changed rack boots on son's UC for RWC) You can fit it at home, a little fiddley. R/H is shim adjusted as is pinion end float. No press or special tools needed.

I found out today that a rack rebuild kit is available for around $50. The retailer couldn't tell me what's in the kit, but will find out and send me the details. I will probably get one, but whether I install it or not is another matter. Firstly, there is very little play in the rack and could be left for now. The other reason is that I don't have any specs on how to adjust it all once the worn bits have been replaced.

I didn't do anything on the UC this weekend. Too many other things to do and not enough parts were sourced. All of the front end bits I need should be purchased during the week. So there should be something to report by the weekend.

Famous last words...

At least I didn't specify which weekend I would be making a report! It took until Monday to organise and purchase all the front end bits. I've been installing them since 8 PM Saturday. It's nearly 3 AM now and I'm just about finished my break. All I need is an internal spring compressor and it should be back on all four wheels again. Hopefully everything bar the front springs will be in before the sun rises.

Today, that is.

When it's back on 4 wheels. I ordered the internal spring compresser today. That should show up either Monday or Tuesday. It's then a matter of making time to get out into the garage and assemble the rest of the front end.

It's got nothing to do with your firewall. There were so many pics, I simply moved them all to a new folder on my server. Since I can't edit posts, all you get is the X factor. I'll get around to making a webpage to avoid endless clicking.

One day.

There is no direct link to the pics ATM. If you know exactly where they are, you can view them. Otherwise, you will have to wait until I create a seperate page or two on my site. The internal coil spring compressor I've been waiting on is ready for me to pick up, so hopefully it will be back on four wheels and tyres this weekend. If the weather is reasonable, I shall pull out the camera again.

Can't believe the last time I touched the car was back on March 12! Anyway it looks like the shoulder is finally on the mend, so I should be back in the garage in the next couple of weeks. The internal spring compressor is sitting next to the springs, which is next to the crossmember, which is right under where the front bumper is supposed to be. Which means the front end will be completed, so it will be back on four wheels again. Which means I can then attack the body work.

hay chop id get a andra book and follow the gide lines as for getting it checked i think there is no point save your money as you need to go 10.99 or quicker to need one so save your pennies and wait till you acheve 10.99 and go get on then good luck with the build ps put a 308 in it and be done.

I don't quite follow the previous post. What is it that I need if I go quicker than 10.99 seconds? I'm hoping to go under 14 seconds, but not by that much. When I'm in Adelaide next month, I will be getting the ANDRA handbook. That is one of many reasons for going there.

Sub-11-second cars need Full Cages, or something like that.

The bloke I bought my interior off got told that his LH was too quick for having no cage etc when he tried to register it down here (was fine previously in Darwin). I think it was 10.99 and under...

So that now has a full cage and no interior, will become purely a drag car.

Chopper do you intend to run front springs and shock or just let the beast be ultra low with nothing eg Funnycar look? Just curious!

Cheers

AFAIK 10.99 is the cutoff for full cage.

11.99 you'll need an ANDRA UDL licence - simply pay the $$ and its yours

>140Mph and you need a parachute!

Thats the simple basics as i know them.
To confirm you'll have to buy the ANDRA rule book..
Cheers!
