I'll stick to using what I already have in the garage for now. Nitrous was never a consideration and never will be.

Back on topic.

Got a couple of brass wheels for my hammer drill from Bunnings tonight. The body sealer/sound deadener/sticky shit is coming off nicely, but is very time consuming. I've cleaned up around the rear screen and have started around the front screen. My concentraion then started to wander and I started wire brushing bits that don't really need it. I then realised I wasn't achieving much, so I have now locked up the garage for the night. My plan is to spend at least 30 minutes out in the garage doing something usefull. That could mean cleaning it up, but I'd prefer to leave that job for Ron. Later on.

I could always strip the lot back to bare metal and paint it in POR 15. It'll spend most of it's time in the garage, so being UV sensitive won't be too much of a concern.

i had VR V6 commodore injectors in my VK EFI

Sammy did you need to modify anything for them to fit or were they a strait fit..

My blue 202 was making about 170hp at the flywheel using totally stock VK EFI other than an aftermarket fuel pump

What was done besides the VK EFI and what did you do about Ign as the VK EFI ECU doesnt cater or it, its a fuel only managment..
And even tho you had more fuel pressure at the injectors how did you get the ECU to up the duty cycle so they can thro more fuel. Was the 170HP dyno proven or just a estimate? Im asking as my mates son is puting an EFI 202 in a gemini coupe and his on a small budget(15 years old)..

CHOP whats the go with tranny, you using a trimatic i asume or 4spd? I spose you allready no of the gemini converta histall trick..If you gona run a gemi converta let me know ill give you one, i have a complete trimatic from a gemini in workin order..

John

PS Red goes faster anyway..lol

If you want it to go faster chopper, put some fast4 stickers like Blitz or HKS / ETC on it. Works best if you cover the front winscreen in them so you cannot see.

seems to work for all the ricers.
plus you could put a 6 inch exhaust tip on it (but it may create a venturi vacum effect at the rear of the car and actually slow it down )

pretty much most commodore injectors that i have seen fit straight in, the injectors look almost identical other than the colour etc ....

all that was required after fitting the injectors was to adjust the air flow meter to suit the different injectors, i had to lean it out a fair bit, i guess for the same opening time and fuel pressure the VR injectors flow a fair bit more fuel.

the motor has been dyno proven at 132hp at the wheels, when using the 30% drivetrain loss i worked out about 170hp at the flywheel - could be more, could be less, will never know without engine dyno i suppose.

The ignition is sorted with a blue motor electronic dizzy which has been regraphed to suit my motor .... oh and the dyno run was on BP Ultimate in everyday tune.

done other than VK EFI, where do i start .... go to this link, its got all the specs :)Sammy's Motor Specs.

Cool mate sound interesting. With the air flow meter arnt they for idle only, Im sure it will lighten the mixtures on idle but not in the rev range. I can see your point in the bigger injector with more fuel pressure flowing more in the same time frame..

Air flow meters are restrictive, a map sensor is much much better. Thats why i like the delco from a VN onwards.. They arnt to hard to regraff and use on a holden six. And you can still use a elec dissy and rid the coil packs. another way would be to machine some sort of plate to bolt to your front balancer and use a crank angle sensor and the CDI coil packs from VN, VP, VR.. That should improve spark and performance on a low budget..

Im just about to buy a kalmaker workshop kit for my hatch.. Now that should be fun and games..

John

Just thought of the EST carby black motors from the VK, they run a crank angle sensor on the back of the head and pick up from the converta or flywheel in a manual..Another solution i gues..

no the air flow meter is used for all rpms, the flap in it opens as the engine sucks more air in and this changes the resistance the air flow meter puts out to to ECU, effectively you tighten or loosen the spring in the air flow meter so for a given amount of air it will put in the right fuel, so if its too rich, you tighten the spring which means more air needs to be sucked in before the flap will open to the same point as above .... vice versa, loosening means the flap will have less pressure on it and therefore will take less air pressure to open it to that same point ...

as far as the delco ECU goes, im working on that ... i have welded the flange from a VN V6 TB onto my VK EFI manifold, i have an o2 sensor fitted to the exhaust, next is to work out a crank trigger, the vk est option is out of the question, it only has four sensors on the flywheel, you need alot more to get the accuracy of the VN trigger ....

i also plan to use the VN S2 coil packs, if im going delco its all or nothing :)

and yeah im hoping once its running right it should be a far less restrictive system and a far more tunable/self learning system unlike the VK EFI which is like a carby as far as tuning goes, once you tune it thats where its set till you re-tune!

i have a VR V6 im fitting into an FB Ute, i plan to run that on a kalmaker i think, so far it looks like the best tool that 'I' can tune and play with ... be #@$^%& if i want to pay shitloads to get someone to do it for me.

I dont think it would be too hard to weld in a few more pickups on the VK setup. Its already mounted a crank angle sensor so half the works done.. Iv also read on the kalmaker forums that they use a dissy and make a internal plate and a hallaffect sensor wich is what the crank angle sensor is realy.. Much like elec ign but using the dissy only for a triger to fire the CDi coil pack.. They done it to a VL and also run a map sensor using a Delco VN computer.. have a read mate its got some top info on that site..

Chop sorry for hijacking your thread, maybe we should start a custom EFI conversion thread in the technical section..

I'm using a Trimatic. I won't be using the Gemini converter. I tried that once behind an XU-1 spec 202 in my HZ. The converter lasted 8 minutes.

LOL well it is intended for a 1600 gemini 4pot..

Altho a mate used a gemini converta once in his LC GTR with a 202 solid cam and 465 4brl holley and it worked fine for quite some time.. maybe the HZ was too heavy for it..My brother works for hollroid engineering in fairfeild, they are a converta place and trailer spareparts.. Ill get him to speek to the guy he works with that does the convertas. he quoted me $200 for a 2500rpm stall for my trimatic.. If you are interested that is?

I went to Dominator after the Gemini converter went to the scrap heap. Not interested in engine bits ATM ( unles they are REAL cheap ), as I'm prepping the shell. Then in the following order:

Rear suspension
Front suspension
Steering column
Brakes

THEN

I play with the engine and box.

Well, that was the plan. Due to the rust around the rear screen, I have to re-install the rear suspension before proceeding any further. The reason being, I have to crawl around inside the boot to get at it properly. I won't be doing that with the vehicle on stands, so the arse end goes back in. I have the springs, 3.9 diff and a wide selection of rims. The adjustable rear arms have been ordered and should arrive this week. The rear shocks can go on much later.

I was wondering when you were going to make a post. Did you convert it to front bucket seats, or were they already there when you bought it?

I converted (well, my brother did it for me, I can'y weld for crap) to buckets. It was a very sad and tired bench seat when I got it.

I am picking up the H/D adjustable rear control arms tomorrow morning. Hopefully I'll have time to install the rear suspension on Saturday. Time will tell.

Agreed, the engine bay on 1SICK6 looks mean as but I don't think I've heard any performance figures from her.
