its a pretty rare combo , i,d think it was more an option on the 150 built bath 73 cars ... it was cams homologation stuff , however not impossible as gtr-xu1 says

The reason i recon all is because not all the sets off self locating 72 sprintmasters were fitted to XU1s for homogilation, some ended up on GTRs etc. I believe the 1.38-1 third gear gearbox was an option but not standard issue for the upgraded 73 car.

Well the mechanic who worked on my car seemed pretty excited. That to me says that these so called "clusters" did exist. He was adamant that this gearbox was a bathurst one. Again I say that this was 1987 and the car is now .....no longer!!!

only wish jamie , i was told when i bought the car it had one , but when i,d pulled it down it was an 899 ...

i,d say scotty most mechanics get excited when they find the 899 xu1 ratio and scratch there heads if they have to replace the cluster or 3rd gear ..

HEY EVERYONE ME AGAIN, this is another interesting fact today i was finalising talks with HARRY FIRTH to confirm that he is coming to TORANAFEST,well to all you fans i can officially say he is coming. In the conversation i asked a few unknown questions reguarding the 72 cars & the 73 cars one that i was so happy to confirm with him was that they infact did build initially 200 73 bathurst cars at ACACIA RIDGE then after that run of cars continued to build another 176 "73" bathurst cars.So that to me confirms that FIV ANTONIO GOT ONLY HALF THE LIST.So in saying that, thats one to take in & think about & like i said doesn't get any better coming straight from the horses mouth. What do some of you think now?
Cheers UFO XU-1 :D

i think he might of meant 200 72 bathursts and 176 73 bathursts

i dont think there were too many more xu1,s built after the 73 bathurst cars according to the micro fish , maybe 20 tops

By the end of their production, the XU1 was a difficult car for the dealers to shift.
I remember when working at the Holden dealer the steady stream of new XU1s trckling off in 73.
At Gilberts Camperdown (Sydney) we had 5 XU1s that sat in the predelivery department for ages.
A batch of the 73 Bathurst spec cars actually ended up at the Police department dressed as GTRs, so that would have helped the numbers.

How many were built?
I don't know. It would be nice to know, But I wouldn't lose sleep over it..
I just like to enjoy what I own.

At the risk of being shot down (again) I will say it again...if it's not on the list of the 150 it aint a 73 bathurst...plain and simple. I know there are those who will argue otherwise but if I was looking at buying a 73 bathurst and one was on the list and one wasn't guess which one I would buy? Standing by for a tirade....

Hi Skapinad,

It must be very frustrating to track down what a 72 Bathurst homolgation car actually is. At least with the 73 homolgation the cars were identified in the service bulletin to dealers but of course that hasn't stopped the never ending arguments . Good luck on your search for the truth. I'd be guessing of the 1690 that were built there would only be roughly 4000 left..........

Very difficult question to answer and we will never know the exact numbers. I think any person contemplating buying any of these cars that are bringing top dollars would have to do their homework before parting with large wads of cash. Having said that there are still many fine (and matching genuine) cars still out there.
