Ok, this one is the RH side inner door trim, its in great nick, not even saggin, just dirty though. The plastic chrome is a bit hows ya father but I'm going to try and get that carpet steam cleaned and hope it doesn't ruin it. Some advice on that would be appreciated. In fact, all advice is appreciated!

Here is the LH door drim, same as the driver side, needs a clean but the map pockets are still tight.

Just an important note to mention here, although I want to retain the originality of most of the interior, I intend on inserting power windows here and am a bit stuffed on where I'm gonna stick the window switches. I don't really want to alter the door trim, but then again, i could have something made up with longer arm rests with the switches in them, but that would be too costly. Any ideas here?

A pic of the boot with the ' love rug ' :D Theres the usual rust underneath that boot seal. Is getting those Rare spares rust channels the go? Hand them to a panel beather and viola? The wire for the rear demister has come apart, so that will have to be changed.

The beloved dash, I'm also in a bit of a pickle here on what to do when the Alloytec goes in. I actually have the dash, and its gonna be a bitch to try and fit it in, while maintaining the current theme. I'll have to suss out those conversion boxes that Castle Auto Electrics do to see what can be done in retaining the original instument cluster. I'm still in 2 minds about that. 2 things that dad did when he had the car was, made up the dash mat, which has protected it beautifully, and he put that awful steering wheel wrap, which has protected the grain on the wheel, awesome! Just think, in a year, there will be an electronic throttle sitting in that foot well! YIPEE!

The original license plates that this car rolled off the show room floor with back in 1977 in the Shepparton Area. I have the documents somewhere to prove it. And don't worry, I payed the $80 holding fee to keep the plates, so I can one day re register it in Vic. If I ever get back there.

I discovered this crack in the console and the console lid has to be retrimmed. Can these cracks be repaired? You can just see the RTS badge that fell off the glove box, I'll re glue it...one day!

I'm not sure what the proper name for these are, inner boot lid? it has 2 support pieces because yours truly put his big fat knee through it whilst climing in the back one day. I'm sure its the original one out of the car, but its made out of chip board.
I plan to do something fancy with this one, something like mahogany or oak, or some sort of nice wood to replace that one.

Nice plates :spoton:

Good to see you got the pics sorted out, glad I could help.

Have a look here - http://www.gmh-toran...?showtopic=8220 - for Power Window ideas...

It looks like the body is in pretty good condition, it doesn't seem to have the usual C pillar rust... And that interior! Bloody hell, it's mint.

EDIT: oh, and you do realise that you can add more than one pic to each post. :spoton:

Tim

G'day Brewster,

Nice hatch, and great work getting an alloytec project going !!

I had an idea ages ago regarding electric windows but maintaining originality. I thought about keeping the original window winders but somehow incorporating a switch into them to activate the power windows. Instead of pressing a button for up/down you just pull/push the window winder up/down a little bit. Might take a bit of electrical know how which I dont have but I reckon it is possible.

Something different and no holes in the trim to fill.

Cheers,

Big T

Ok, thanks for the tip Tim! Dad decided to drill a hole in the dash one day  to put in a warning light for an after market oil pressure guage because he didn't think the orginal one was working. Well, it did! I've had some thoughts about what to supplement this with, maybe a Nitrous switch, so that when you flick it, that little green lens lights up!

Posted Image

These set of swithes here, I've got no idea what to do with. The one in the middle, rear window demist, have a NOS spare somewhere for that. And the other two, I can't remember, one is for the aftermarket thermo fan thats installed because when the car was at low speeds with the a/c on, it got really hot. God knows what the other one is, I'll have to ask dad :D

Posted Image

Just wanted to know, is there supposed to be a little black knob on that fan switch?

Big T, see the link I posted above. I'm pretty sure Herne used the window winders as the switch...

Ok, here it is, the engine bay, note, the factory air con, huge ass radiator, always got told that the difference between the V8 model and 6 was the driveline, but not the suspension or the radiator. Is that true? You can just see the fuel filter from the electric fuel pump, installed due to the car sitting around for ages, and there's no pollution gear..whoops!

Posted Image

I've had these plates checked, and it confirms the old girl is original :D A note to add here, with the respray of the engine bay, I want to just buff these plates up without removing them, and then paint around them. What do you use to buff them up?

Thanks Tim, I had a quick read but that was about it. I'll go back and read it properly.

Brewster, to the best of my knowledge the fan switch doesnt have a black knob. I wondered that myself but I think on an ad I saw for the LX Hatch (see Torana Memorabilia thread - recent post) it didnt show a black knob. Might be worth having a look at that post for verification.

Thanks Big T, the advert was a treat, as well as sorting out that little issue of the fan switch, no plastic knob!

Ok, the next few shots are of the interior. the roof lining is in excellent condition, soured by the awful fitting pinchweld, but not to worry, just got myself some new pinchwelds to fix that problem. The arm rests have had it, cracked and swollen almost, must have been the heat here in the north. The seats will have to be redone, how ever, I did want to fit something like later model commodore electric seats. Someone has VX electric seats fitted to theres I think. I'm not sure if the larger seat will look awkward inside the car. You'll see that I've had to change the front seat belts for registration at one point. Does anyone reco the original belts?

And last but cetainly not least, for tonight anyway, the Tigress. The scheme that the previous owner to dad had made up, and the little buggers kind of grew on us all. Thats why I'm pressured into getting these redone after the car is repainted!

Thanks M@, I was kinda hoping this colour scheme was rare, well rare..er! I'm going to keep the original colour because I just love it. According to the paint code, and from a reliable source, Dynasty Gold, is its name. Although for years we have just called it golden brown. :D Its almost a 70's version of the Tiger Mica without the metallic in it.

Re: Seats. I measured up the front seats in my cousin's 1991 Toyota Soarer. They are about identical in every way to the seats in the LJ, although the weigh a heap more because they are electric. And, Soarers are 2 doors, so they have a quick release thingy to let the rear passengers out. They're really comfy, supportive seats, too, and the Back is pretty skinny, for plenty of legroom in the back.

Just a suggestion.

Flamenco has Statesman (?) seats in his LX.

Real nice hatch Brewster, your on a good thing with that. Next to your green 'nitrous' switch, what is the middle black control for? There are three, the first is windscreen wipers, second is? and third is the handbrake release. Re the fan switch, I don't believe there was a black cover of anytype on it originally.

Hi L31SS, thank you, the middle knob between the the wiper switch and the hand brake release is the choke cable. The button is worn out because the old girl needed heaps of choke to get going in the mornings! :D

Thanks Brewster. Do you know if only the 6cylinder hatches came out with chokes?

G'day Tim, thanks for the handy info, one thing I kinda forgot to mention was that during this project, I'm going to do my darn best to stay away from other makes and stick with Holden, including the diff! I know, I know, I can see the head shakes already, but if I can get the car done and hold my head up high and say there isn't one f..d part or other manufacturer part, then it will be all good.
Although I'm fighting a losing battle, been emailing Dattoman, about some brake upgrades that use that XC - XE booster, damn it!
