So what's the option, aftermarket ecu?

I'm not sure yet, but I'll see how the Holden trip turns out. I was under the impression that modifcation laws in QLD stated that you could only piggy back the factory ECU and not replace it entirely with an aftermarket jobby.

Happy days m8!

Are you getting any sleep?

Cheers, Col.

Not after reading Rodomo's little tip, I'll give them a call on Monday and see what they say.

If you plan to supercharge, then after market ecu may give you a better tune, programs for different fuels etc.

Apparently and from what I've been led to believe on another online forum, the guys at Castle Hill Exhaust in Sydney say that the factory ECU for the Alloytec is a really good unit and can be tuned to suit. As they regulary self proclaim to be the Alloytec tuning gurus. However, the VCM suite guys have been saying for quite awhile now that they are bringing out a MAFLESS tune for this donk, but it keeps getting delayed. Last I heard it was supposed to be released at the end of this month.

The main thing is to get the motor started and running. By the time I get around to getting the car registered and tuned, there should be all sorts of aftermarket goodies available. Right now, you can get billet cams for this thing, but they cost 750 bucks a pop, and there are 4 of them. Plus the labour to put them in is tripled if you don't have the special holden camshaft removal tool that makes the job simple.

Is was told that in WA, if you fit an aftermarket ECU you are required to have an emissions test to prove that the ECU meets emissions standards. I have heard that the emission test costs around $2000.

If you ended up wanting to go aftermarket, you will fine most aftermarket ECUs are way smaller than any factory one, so you just pull the guts from the factory ECU "box" and fit the aftermarket ECU inside ! :spoton:

Or just put the ECU in a spot that is not easily visable/accessible, can't see anyone pulling your car to bits to get a look at a ECU ?...... sorry the workshop fitted my ECU i don't know where they mounted it ,isnt it a part of the engine ?

^ That may work once the car has been engineered and registered.

Have a look at page 10 and 20 of this document. It has to be completed by an engineer for registration.

From what i've read / from what it says, its a 32-bit Bosch Motronic ME9 ECU and is supposed to be one of the most powerful and sophisticated ECU's currently available for automotive use. Its micro-hybrid design embeds all the necessary electronic circuitry on a four-layer sandwich substrate that reduces the size of the unit and makes it stronger, allowing the ECU to be engine-mounted.
The ECU can withstand mounting temperatures of 110 degrees centigrade and vibration up to 30g. Engine mounting frees space in the under-bonnet area and eliminates attachment problems at the assembly plant.

So how do you piggy back that little bastard?

Yes use of a aftermarket ECU does not "guarantee" compliance, but does not mean it fails emissions requirements, and a engineer issuing a Blue compliance plate is in no way any guarantee that your car is "legal" and you can not get defected for modifications anyway.

I don't think too many engineers (in QLD anyway) would have a 4-gas analyser or even a db meter to do any sort of exhaust testing, so it will be hard for anyone to tell you have a modified ECU if you can't see it, and to be perfectly honest ,from what i have experienced (personally on the streets) unfortunately not all the "persons" that may examine/defect your car for this sort of stuff actually "know" the rules or how to test them 100% correctly.

Apparently new rules half way through this year will mean emissions test report results will be "required" for approval on any ENG conversions,so things may change soon ?

It starts! WOO HOO! What a relief!! The old injectors were gummed up, luckily my 45lb ones were there to throw in, apparently good for 18PSI of boost easy! :spoton:

Awesome, all thats gotta get done now is change an oil pressure switch that isn't working, remove it from the donor car, pack it, and freight it up here!

Can't wait! :spoton:

We sent wraith75's puter to petroject and got it all by-passed. That was VS V8 though.
The key and antenna around the ignition lock play a part in this too. Do you have them?

To be honest, I don't think Holden will be too much help as this fault is probably out of the perimeters of thier diagnosis. The result may also be "we have to send your puter off to get this by-passed".

Give petroject a call and see if they can help before you spend too much at Holden.

I did call Petroject and they said that they couldn't help me, they said they specialise in the repair of ECU's and have done some aftermarket modification but this sort of thing wasn't up there ally.

I don't know either guys. All I got told was that they hooked the baby up to the Holden Dealership Network and downloaded the required info to fire it.

Con at CAE said he had a good friend at Holden in Bendigo who did all the nutting out with the Tech11 scanning tool to get the car fired. I'm emailing him as we speak to try and get some more info out of him to shed some light on the situation.

Hi Micklx, yes the car has a full exhaust system on it. I haven't heard it yet, but have been assured that the system delivers a sweet note. :spoton:

Hi sixpack, cheers mate, you might want to also check out page 6 of lx5008 project page, as his interior is the shinning example of what this interior looks like brand new! :spoton:

MT where did you read that? In my stressing over this engine firing or not i've missed this little line! I'm sure being a brand new engine the emissions should be ok, but using fatter injectors and supercharging shouldn't impeed the readings too much? <--- I know I'm dreaming there

I heard about the supposed new emissions tests from a mate that owns a mech workshop, he's not the sort of guy to make stuff up, but i started with "Apparently" as i have not seen anything in writing with my own eyes :sofa:

I would perhaps suggest you bring the subject up with your engineer (you have been talking to one along the way i hope ?) incase you need to be aware of any up coming changes in regulations with regard to this subject ?

And bout time you posted some more pic's i think ? :D
