Good to see an update mate. Slow and steady wins the race, as they say!

Cheers Tim, there are only 2 problems I can see with the slow and steady thing,
1. Fuel is going to be extremely high by the time this car is finished and I won't be able to afford to fill it up, and
2. I can't wait that long, I'm busting as it is!

awesome project brewster, but i would be getting those straps modified before chroming. Once that tank is full ( 70kg ) those straps might pull straight before the rear mounting point where the nice curve is bent, even with the upper locating tangs holding the tank in place.
cheers Julian

Find out in two weeks if plan B is going to work...
Bit of a bugger, I was hoping to have it all back before chrissy.

Doesnt someone up there have a scan tool? they are readily available these days, generally enough to find faults (although not as detailed as holdens own one)
Whats plan B??

So there is an electrical fault stopping the engine from turning over?

The electrical fault is the Power interface module doesn't have the same pin code as the ECU, which means it won't let the body control module talk to the ECU to start.
Apparently the Holden scan tool is worth over 40K, and the idea was to get one of their techs down with the tool to change the code.

Plan B is getting a new power interface module and the guy that actually makes the power interface module will visit to do some handy work. That won't happen for two more weeks. Fingers crossed they can get that biatch started!

That sucks bigtime hope you can figure it out
Thanks TJ, poor old Jake the elec tech is the bloke coming up with all the solutions at the moment, if plan B doesn't work, plan C will have to work, physically get hold of the next VZ commy that goes to the wreckers and before they dismantle the thing, I'll have to get all 3 components off it, ECU, BCM and PIM. That way they will all match. TOUCH WOOD!

Yeh the VZs the engine cranking is all fully electronic controlled, so much so, that if you just "flick" the IGN key to the start position, the car just takes over and holds the starter going untill the engine fires, even though you dont have your hand even near the key.
Its funny, after driving a VZ for months, i find i am now "lazy" and i get in other cars and just flick the key to start (instead of holding key on untill started) and of course the engine will turn over a little, but wont start

You'll get it sorted soon i'm sure....... mmm,a Microtech must be starting to look good about now, especially for getting the most out of being supercharged (LOL)

That must be so frustrating you poor bugger, having it all sitting in the bay and it wont go due to stupid ECU issue.

Thanks for that MT, I didn't realise the ignition system worked like that. I mean, I don't own a VZ commodore and I've never driven one. This thing better be a bloody good ride when its finished!
Speaking of the tuning issue, luckily for me, there are some minor performance development going on with the Alloytec, although its rather costly. That is CPR6 have created a tunnel ram manifold, although it costs 3,300 bucks! And billet cam shafts are 750 each and upwards! ( its got 4 of them! ) Apparently VCM suite have been saying they're going to bring out a mafless tune for this, but its been put on the back burner because other software upgrades have taken precedence.
By the time I get around to getting it done, surly it would have been tried and tested by then...surly!

This really puts the wreckers of the future out though doesnt it! if your BCM shits itself, then its off to holden for a new one (aslong as they still make them!)
Late model astras are the same with ECUs being matched to other components. The drama is, they "program" themselves, so if a mechanic assumes the ECU is rooted, orders a new one for the ridiculous price from holden, and plugs it in, it programs itself to that car, and if it doesnt fix the problem, then its too late! its already useless!

The "softer" acceleration off the line can be good, simpley because you can plant your foot and it just goes without spinning wheels.
The down side is the "delay" when you accelerate hard when moving (overtaking etc) the bloody thing can feel like its asleep even when full throttle, half of the problem is gearbox kickdown related, and you can combat this by leaving the PWR button on and pulling the shifter back a gear or two manually.
As you are going supercharged, you will have mass amounts of extra torque, and so this tendancy to NOT just "rev its tits off" could be a good thing, using the blower torque to push the car forward hard.
Its all in the ENG tune anyway ,plus your standard VZ executive (lightest model) weighs in @ 1552KG,you could come in a couple of hundred KG lighter in a Torana, so its gonna fly regardless

good luck with the electronics.
I have had issues with late model stuff, holden service is useless, just open your cheque book while they try to figure it out.

Sorry for the late reply, and thank you for your interest.
Unfortunately, the project is on the back burner, CAE have other projects going so mine isn't a priority at the moment. Which I don't mind, that was the deal in he first place, it's more of a fill in project when they have down time.
As for the ECU, spoke to Con just before chrissy and he said he knows a Holden tech and will be able to sweet talk them around and not to worry as it will get done. Fine by me I say. I'm not stressing about it at the moment.
I got hold of a 21 Circuit EZY wiring harness for a song, brand new never used for the old girl.
And I got hold of some names for a potential panel beater and car upholster from word of mouth that I'm going to look into. They came highly recommended.
But thats about it, nothing more to update on sorry.

I like the look of the rear seat backs and am hoping it won't be too much of a mission to try and graft them in.
