In order for this scanning tool to work, I need the REGO number off the original DONOR CAR!!

The rego number is needed to allow identification of the freaking VIN number so the damn scanner tool will work!!

I got the engine back in JULY '05

I've fired off an email sounding like a desperate and heart broken biaatch to Ferntree Gully Autosalvage in the vein hope that they'll be able to look through their business records and tell me. All though I'm not holding my breath.
And thanks to this latest development, I'm not gonna get anymore sleep again tonight! God damn it! Couldn't sleep last night because of work, now I'm not gonna get any sleep all week! I'll probably put on 10kg's, lose more hair, have more greys, and have my life shortened by 10 years!

Freaking hell, this is what happens when you blindly jump into what seemed like a good idea at the time. D Day is turning out to be more like operation Market Garden!
DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT!!!!!!

I need the rego number to give to Holden so they can tell me the VIN number. As Holden keep a record of cars using the Rego number and it has all the information you need. Apparently they can't search for the VIN number using the engine number, and thats what the VIC RTA told me today also. Unless of course its for security reasons or they are just BSing me.
However, another forum member has offered his services and I've given him the engine number in the hope that his contacts can find the information I need. You know who you are, and I'm very greatful.
For now, D Day has been post poned until I can get this information.

Thats not good news at all mate! Rego number? Or Vin number? Man what a pain in the arse! Surely a wreckers would have to keep info like that anyway for legal reasons.... Lets hope luck is on your side for a change!

Hi MRLXSS,
It seems that technology in regards to anti theft has evolved. My understanding is, and from what I've been led to believe, in order for the average commodore to start, pre 2004 models just needed the Body Control Module (BCM) or a BCM Bypass Device ( found at Castle Automotive Enterprises ), for a conversion. Most V6 conversion members here may have experienced this problem, please correct me if I'm wrong. However, for VZ onwards, Holden introduced the Power Interface Module (PIM) which allows the BCM to let the ECU know that its there and all three of them ECU, BCM and PIM share a unique Pin Code to communicate.
In the event of any of these parts failing, the scanning tool that Holden uses, (apparently over 40K's worth), can change the Pin Code, BUT the password to change the Pin Code is the vehicles VIN number!!!
And if I had of known all this at the time I bought the engine, I wouldn't be in this mess!!

You have the engine number... MAYBE you could get a vin as well... Or if, as you say you could get the Rego, then you could get the vin and the engine number...

YES the VIN was the right one and the Tech11 scanning tool worked
YES it communicated to the BCM, PIM and ECU
NO it didn't start!!!!

Had an error code ' tis access '

This means, the car will get loaded onto a trailer and taken to the Holden dealership next week in order to access the Holden dealership network for more information.

The Holden Tech is confident that this motor will start.
I'm just dreading the bill afterwards!

surely the wreckers sold it as a going concern and they should be responsible otherwise how can they dispose of these motors ???
Yes, I did think about that, but I don't think I would have a leg to stand on if I pointed the blame at them. I know of other wreckers that dismantle the PIM's , BCM's and ECU' and store them in mass storage bins seperately! So you wouldnt have a hope in hell in getting a matching trio unless you cornered the car before they touched it. I've noticed in other parts mags and ebay auctions advertising the engine without these components.
It's a pretty tough lesson to learn, but I don't hold any grudges against the people I bought it off, its just one of those things.

The key and antenna around the ignition lock play a part in this too. Do you have them?
To be honest, I don't think Holden will be too much help as this fault is probably out of the perimeters of thier diagnosis. The result may also be "we have to send your puter off to get this by-passed".
Give petroject a call and see if they can help before you spend too much at Holden.
